Carmel Valley >> The San Clemente Dam will not, it turns out, be going out with a big bang. Maybe a bunch of smaller bangs, but no big bang.

That is the left for you.
The Khmer Rogue spent a lot of time demolishing infrastructure as well.
Don’t they need the water?
This years third, and final, construction season for the $84 million largest dam removal project in state history will also feature completion of the new Carmel River route to allow the river to flow again, finishing sediment stabilization, and replanting native vegetation at the site.
Liberals at work doing what liberals do.
They claim the dam was old and unsafe particularly in the event of an earthquake.
Yes. They need YOUR water.
Plus, who knows how much gold is piled up at the base of that thing.
I wonder who gets to process all that buildup.
The screw-ball libs in California are praying to the Water Gods while wondering where all the water went.
Why can't they just open the flood gates and let the water equalize?
They could cut a small channel at the top for boat traffic.
Typical liberal, well-fare mentality. What is theirs is theirs and what is yours is theirs.
It is silted up and doesn't hold much water. That is the fate of all dams/lakes.
This 2 minute YouTube video of a dam removal shows first a big mud flow moving downstream then a view of the lake as the water drains away, or what used to be a lake.
I used to live in Carmel Valley. The libbers were talking about tearing the dam down back in the 70’s so the Salmon could go spawn or some such.
I remember when I came back from the war standing above Mid Valley and looking down at the Carmel River and commenting that all of the Cottonwoods along the river had died in the preceding three years. Seems the water company had drilled a number of wells along the river to supply water for the development taking place on the Monterey Peninsula.
My point?
The dam was old and had pretty badly silted up. Will the Carmel River ever run all year like when I was a kid? Nope.
“They claim the dam was old and unsafe particularly in the event of an earthquake.”
Looking at the photos I sure wouldn’t live downstream of it.
Just dam . . .
Why can't they dredge it like is done to harbors around the world. Oh, it is located in California. They don't know about maintaining their infrastructure, such as important resources such as water. Nor do they want to improve those infrastructures because of some insignificant rat or mouse that is in the way. (sarc._
