Cruz: TPA Doesn’t Give Obama More Power, Jeff Sessions ‘Not Accurate’ On TPP
Breitbard ^ | 06/12/2015 | Ian Hanchett

Posted on 06/12/2015 12:41:58 PM PDT by SoConPubbie

Texas Senator and GOP presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) argued Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) “is not giving the president more authority” and that Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) is “not accurate” in some of his claims regarding the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) on Friday’s broadcast of “The Kuhner Report” on Boston’s WRKO.

Cruz argued that he had been the staunchest opponent of President Barack Obama in Congress. He then separated TPA (Trade Promotion Authority) and the TPP (the Trans-Pacific Partnership). He touched on TPA first, stating that “history has demonstrated, the only way to get a trade agreement adopted is with fast-track. Since FDR, consistently, for 80 years, presidents in both parties have had fast-track. Anytime fast-track has lapsed, trade agreements don’t get negotiated.” He later added that it was a “misunderstanding” to say TPA gave away the Senate’s treaty power. Cruz stated that “Under the Constitution, there are two ways to make binding law. Number one, you can pass a treaty ratified by 2/3ds of the Senate. Or number two, you can pass legislation passed by a majority of both of houses of Congress and signed by the president. … TPA uses the second constitutional path.” And “it’s been long recognized that the Constitution’s Origination Clause applies to trade bills, which means the House of Representatives has to be involved. There’s a reason why trade bills have historically not been done as treaties, because the Constitution says that anything concerning the raising of revenues, and trade bills concern tariffs, which are the raising of revenues, has to originate in the House of Representatives. So, the process of approving a trade agreement through both houses of Congress has been the way it has been done for roughly a century. And it is not giving the president more authority.”

Regarding TPP, Cruz said

I think it’s a shame that some of us are going to become cyber enemies because of this whole thing, but I guess it is what it is. Just don’t beat your wife or kick your dog before the next few days run their course.

I suspect this next part will pi$$ you off, but I can’t help myself.

~~Cruz, OR LOSE~~ Ted Cruz REMAINS the only true Conservative in this race.

They are trying to erode our trust for Ted Cruz.

They? You mean Ted himself don't you?

I don’t remember most of the individual names but I’m here enough to recognize regular posters vs those who seldom post.

Frankly its astounding how easily manipulated people are but if they’re being told what they want to hear they’ll take every word as gospel.

It is separate from TPA.

Without TPA the rest of the deals fall through so this is sort of a lie. Kind of like being able to vote cloture then swear you voted against the bill when it comes to the floor which is basically true but it would never have became a law if the Cloture vote had not happened.

The TPA is the tool the Globalist need in order to pass the TPP.

Obama , along with Ted Cruz, orgasmicly wanted to hand over what George Washington set up over 200 years ago to foreign Wolves....

This is the WORST Republican leadership in 50 years!

Republicans took back Congress by promising to stop Obama’s power grabbing.

Then McConnell, Boehner and the Ryan chorus push for new secret trade legislation in order to pass the hidden from public to give him even more power to abuse.

LOSE CRUZ

There. I fixed your tag line.

And I hope many folks don’t end up hating each other here. A lot of folks just get made when they are betrayed by someone they believed in and donated to.

Exactly. The extinction of Cruz’s candidacy is completely self-inflicted.

Nobody could be raising all of these facts and issues against him if he had not betrayed what he said his principles were and then had the audacity to tell us he had not done what he just did.

If the moronic masses want to elect Jeb Clinton, they’ll do it without me.

Then my advice to Cruz and others is to withhold their support until this bill is Availabe to all, so it can be scored based on what is in it. Maybe you like secrecy, but many do not.

Nor do I. There are very rare times secrecy is called for when national security is truly at stake. This is not such a time. Furthermore I remember all too well the BushBots squealing in delight every time "W" farted a new idea and it was not to be challenged because you were either with him or the terrorist and yes I remember that included FTTA which Bush used 9/11 and Iraq events as an excuse.

People please think about events of the past 17 years and the deceptions that have came out of congress and especially the Oval Office. Remember we had a POTUS who's uncle was in China negotiating trade deals with a Communist government while our plane well within international waters was forced to land? REMEMBER THE EXPANSION OF EXECUTIVE BRANCH POWERS UNDER "W" & NEW THE AGENCIES THAT ARE NOW BEING USED AGAINST US MAKING UP THEIR OWN LAWS?

Personally I'd rather see No Bills except a conservative budget passed until Obama leaves office and we know who the next POTUS is. Trust has been lost and it is the fault of both parties past and current leadership including every Speaker of the House, Senate Majority or Minority Leader, and POTUS since January 1989. They want support? Fine! Earn our trust again first and stop it with the hurried helter skelter rushed through secretive and/or unread abominations of legislation which has brought us to where we are now.

Cruze needs to back off on this issue and it needs to be dropped. Passing Secretive Legislation not involving national security is wrong I don't care who benefits. I didn't support Fast Track under Bush and I don't now no matter who is running. Right now I trust no one in federal elected office. We need to fix the huge mess Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Frist, Hassert, Lott, McConnell, Boehner, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama, etc have all created. Give anyone holding office in these times a shortcut for authority? Not on my vote.

Jeff Sessions is my Senator. While I like Ted Cruz . . . I do not trust Obama. He is an idiot when it comes to deals.

Sorry Ted, not buying it.

The Senate has to approve a treaty with a 2/3 vote. All of these “trade agreements” are being classified as “laws” instead of treaties. So they only need a majority in the House and Senate to pass, not 2/3 of the Senate.

The point is Obama is always wrong because he’s paradigmatically inhibitied. Do you think he would end abortions? No, he wouldn’t. The same moral compass that tells him it’s a good idea to leave a baby in a broom closet to die is the moral compass that will sell American sovereignty to Pakistan through “free trade.”

Ted Cruz May 2015:

Sen. Cruz. “I am a strong supporter of free trade, but I cannot support legislation that would allow the President to once again circumvent Congress to enact his own immigration laws.

Ted Cruz in June 2015:

Sen.

I am not a primary Freeper. I supported Cruz and almost gave him money (I’m glad I didn’t). He voted for this because he’s a corporatist. If conservatives are “falling for” something, it’s that Cruz is one of us. He’s as much a con-man as Rubio.
