Biologists at Rocky Mountain National Park are connecting the dots between nitrogen pollution and unprecedented algal blooms in the parks lakes. Heres how it works.
1. Cows eat greens in pastures, which are grown using LOTS of fertilizer.
2. They pee and poop, as animals are inclined to do. The nitrogen-containing ammonia in their urine, however, can transform into an airborne particulate, ammonium nitrate.
3. This little particle floats along in the air, and under certain wind conditions gets carried north, over the park. When it rains or snows, the ammonium nitrate falls back to earth.
4. This has led to excess nitrogen in the parks ecosystem, which can harm native trees, cause invasive plants to thrive, and acidify rivers and lakes.
Some people take out thousands in student loans to discover that science fact.
So bears do not s*#t in the woods after all.
That is why Florida starting demanding cattle be fenced.
OHH; I don’t know, FAT LONG-PIG ECOFREAK sounds pretty good to me, for dog food.
Bison Buffalo pee good
Cow pee bad.
They pee and poop....

This garbage is written at the level of a 4-year-old child. Perhaps the genius who wrote this has an extremely limited vocabulary.
The algae bloom are from over fertilization of cornfields to produce the ethanol these a$$hats make us burn in our cars, some green initiative.
I don’t believe anything these idiots say.
This ranks right up there in my list of top “this is total Bull****” opinions on an “environmental” issue.
If the symptoms actually exist, I wonder if anyone has plotted the rise of Chinese industrialization with this symptom?
A few years back it was frantically clutched at that atmospheric pollutants were killing off all the high altitude amphibians in the Sierra, until a non idiot pointed out that the declines just happened to coincide with fish and game seeding all the fishless alpine lakes with trout...
Using your comments, I think the issue would be the fertilizers used for high grass yield. Bison ate the grass au natural as it were. And yes, for thousands of years bison, birds and other numerous fauna peed and pooped. This article sounds like pseudo science garbage.
As I said before, aerial seeding with clover will improve the quality of the forage and fix nitrogen in the soil (improving the soil for grasses). The bison and other critters will eat the clover, too.
Has anyone done any math as to how much ammonium nitrate (in terms of tonnage) would have to be blown into these lakes to cause an algae bloom?
Not many bathrooms on trail ridge road.
I guess I better quit pissing on my fertilized yard.
The EPA may have a picture of me up there next week. I can see it now.
“Eartick wee wee causing red tide off of Texas Gulf Coast because he pee peed in his fertilized yard.”
