Female scientists were jumping on Twitter on Thursday to voice their views on the controversial comments by a Nobel Prize-winning British scientist, who spoke about his "trouble with girls" when working in laboratories.
*
Female scientists lampooned his sexist remarks, using the hashtag #distractinglysexy, which for anyone following the thread was distractingly funny.

Speaking from a long career in technology, I have observed exactly the opposite. The women I’ve worked with have been (in general) at least as competent, tough and hard working as their male counterparts. I have come across far more useless male co-workers than female ones, even accounting for the disparities in numbers.

Ok, thanks. Didn’t care for that movie too much, so I didn’t recall that line from Harvey Korman. I liked Brooks’ History of the World Part 2 much better. Still, the “Hedley” Lamarr bit was funny.

Coming from 50 years in highly technical disciplines -- physics, electrical engineering and software development -- I would have to sadly agree with
Born to Conserve. If your experience is genuine, it is singular.
In particular, in software development most female hires I've dealt with not only could not code at the level of their male counterparts, they could not even understand the constructs of their masculine peers without significant mentoring.
The relative numbers bear that out as well. For every Emmy Noether in the world, there are literally dozens of men with the same talent.

You’re welcome. Fell in love with her as a kid after seeing her in Samson & Delilah with Victor Mature.

You are a sick man. And, most shockingly to my teachers and other "authority figures" in my life, not the least bit ashamed of it, either.

There once was a girl in a lab
Who didn't exactly dress drab
She drove a man to distraction
With her hip-swinging action
And now that man's driving a cab

Oops. Sorry. I got distracted by reality for a moment there.
There once was a girl engineer,
Who occasionally went out for a beer.
This infrequent action
Was no source of distraction
'Cause the dudes in her office were queer.

Met her boss in the lab for a tryst.
Since the twitter-ous crowd’s
Into shaming so loud
I’ll leave you to guess what she kissed.
