Vanity: What Is Ted Cruz Doing???
6/11/2015 | me

Help! Even though it's early I've thrown my weight behind Ted Cruz already. Now I'm getting VERY nervous that I've been duped with his position on this trade bill.

What is going on? Free Republic has alot of clout; somehow we have got to flush this out of him and either clarify it was a really bad frickin dream or throw him to the trash pile and get behind someone else.

Anyone have clarity on this?

But then who will you support? I’m not happy about the Senator’s apparent support of these trade bills, but the question on my mind is who would I support if not Ted Cruz. I find most of the rest of the candidates and possible candidates to be far worse. Possible exception is Scott Walker, but (a) he hasn’t formally announced his candidacy and (b) I don’t know all that much about him, other than he fought off the unions. I’ve heard conflicting reports regarding his views on immigration, and I don’t know what his foreign policy would be if he became president. If and when I get a clearer picture of the man, I’m not going to support him.

If we can’t find a real conservative we can all get behind, the future of our republic is bleak indeed. We won’t ever find the perfect candidate, but we have to decide whether a candidate’s imperfections are serious enough to disqualify him for consideration. Otherwise, we stay home on election day and we get a Hillary or Sanders presidency. This country can’t afford either.

"support of TPP shows that he is a stinking phoney, just like the others"

How can that be when he owns his stand on the issues and will gladly discuss it with anyone willing to listen. I don't believe there is much phoney about Ted Cruz. In fact, I think he would have a difficult time with "phoney". Not only do I like him, but I trust him more than I do any other politician. I will not vote for anyone else ... period!! I will not vote for another McCain or Romney.

"Anyone have clarity on this?"

Maybe I can help. All free trade agreement have protections built into them. On one hand there are "investor protections" designed to protect the investors from "creeping regulations", such as environmental regulations or labor regulations. For example: NAFTA Chapter 11 contains the investor protections. Politically speaking, the GOP is always going to push the investor protections because investors are GOP constituents.

OTOH, there will also be protections for labor, environment, social welfare, etc. The democrats always push the protections for labor and environment because they are dem constituents.

Cruz, like most GOPers, supports TPP because he thinks the investor protections in TPP are more than adequate.

OTOH, if you listen to Elizabeth Warren and the unions, they are complaining loudly because they think that the protections for labor and environment are inadequate and they think Obama is in bed with the GOP.

Meanwhile, there are the rightwing populists who are opposed to TPP because they see all free trade agreements as being an attack on US sovereignty and part of the New World Order. They say that the European Common Market(a FTA) led to the creation of the European Union and a common currency, and if the US participates in the FTAs, it can lead to the creation of something like the North American Union(NAU) and the creation of a common currency like the Amero dollar.

Cruz is the only one who has been honest about it. Other favored candidates have supported and encouraged it and some have even gone overseas to support it. The fact that they now claim they don’t support it doesn’t speak well of their honesty.

Here is Cruz talking about it in his own words starting at 52 minutes.

Reading the article linked in the federalist, I am ok with Cruz supporting it. I do disagree with Cruz on H1B visas, but I have never met anyone I agree with on everything, there are no perfect candidates, Jesus ain’t walking through the door.

Cruz is the best candidate since Reagan, who also wasn’t perfect. Grow up people

Asking for a candidate that isn’t for selling out America to the gloBULLIst corporate establishment is not asking for the “perfect” candidate.

Backstabber Cruz is the Benedict Arnold of 2015
because TPP sells out the USA, and
Cruz (who did not even read it completely)
is ok with it being secret .... but being passed.

I do disagree with Cruz on H1B visas

I don't like it either but he does tie it to several conditions including proof of real border security and control.
