U.S. Top Court Backs Obama, Invalidates Jerusalem Passport Law

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday struck down a law that would let American citizens born in Jerusalem have Israel listed in passports as their country of birth, saying it encroached on the president's exclusive power to recognize foreign governments.

The 6-3 ruling, a victory for President Barack Obama, comes at a time of strained relations between Israel and the United States, the Jewish state's most important ally. The Obama administration had said if the law were enforced it would have caused "irreversible damage" to America's ability to influence the region's peace process and reversed long-standing American policy not to recognize Jerusalem as part of Israel.

Much to many's surprise, in the aftermath of Obama saying: 'I am the closest thing to a Jew that has ever sat in this office', he gets the Supreme court to invalidate the law that let American citizens born in Jerusalem have Israel listed in passports as their country of birth.

People were saying his talk of being so close to that of being a Jew was a bad omen for Jews.

Since Jerusalem is "occupied territory" Obama wanted the law invalidated, as he is he is the closest thing to a Jew who ever sat in the White House.

IIRC, this issue goes back to Bush....not Obama.

The rule has been in place for a long time. I still don’t like it.

Both, essentially.

The world stumbles towards their own destruction by telling Israel the way things ought to be.

Keep laughing off the Scriptures, world.

Zechariah 12:1-3 King James Version (KJV)

1 The burden of the word of the Lord for Israel, saith the Lord, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him.

2 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.

3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.

Let's see ...

I was born in Jerusalem ... OK

I am an Israeli born Jew .... OK

Now ... I can't put that down on my passport ?

Because why ?

I am totally with you on the principle. I’m just saying that the policy predates Obama. The court was just saying Congress hasn’t the power to correct it. I am not studied up on that issue as a constitutional question so I don’t know. Whatever they demand, reality is still reality. It is Israel.

Actually the Supreme Court backs international law not the Obama administration. I quote:

There is significant disagreement in the international community on the legal and diplomatic status of Jerusalem. Legal scholars disagree on how to resolve the dispute under international law. No country in the world except for Israel has recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Many do not recognize it as a city that is properly Israel's. Many UN member states formally adhere to the United Nations proposal that Jerusalem should have an international status.

As much as I would like Jerusalem to be part of Israel, until it is recognized as such someone born there cannot simply claim it is.

The Obama reference is misleading. GW Bush could have instructed the State Department to allow Jerusalem, Israel, on US passports but did not.

With his core Muslim belief system. There is no Israel.

the Court and the Islamo-nazi-in-chief that the judiciary (and congress) are protecting..................can decide or declare or do any da*ned thing they want

Jerusalem remains (and always will remain) the capital of Israel as it has been since King David, and verily there is nothing new under the sun insofar as IslamoNazis and their enablers in WashDC these past 6 years

So, according to the libs, you can “self identify” what you were born as (sex), but not where.

Got it.

This shows the power of the American dictator, I mean President. The Founders, particularly Mason, Madison, Sam Adams, and Paine, warned about this.
