Question for you.

Putting aside the issue of whether or not this particular takedown was “excessive force” or not, to what standard of accountability should we hold these teenagers and their parents?

Do we no longer expect people to obey the lawful orders of the police to disperse? Do we excuse any incivility, any overt hostility and disrespect of authority? Is it now acceptable to resist arrest, or to attempt to interfere with the arrest of another person?

And what are we to make of the two men who moved aggressively toward the officer as he was handcuffing the girl? Is that now acceptable behavior?

Administrative leave is basically reassignment to a desk job. He’s still fully employed by the department, just reassigned to different tasks.

Suspension is a separation from the department — ie, a temporary firing that can be made permanent. Would be unpaid for the duration of the suspension.

Pretty big difference, IMHO.

Or potentially made worse through excessive use of force. As I said earlier none of the other police officers saw the need to body-slam 14 year old girls on the ground or draw their weapon on unarmed teens



The teens started yelling racial slurs at our neighbors and started assaulting people and property (throwing bottles at cars and attacking a mother at the pool with 3 young children).

And I'll repeat. The other police officers all managed to contain the situation and end the incident without abusing their authority or drawing their weapons. So were they the bad cops or the good cops?
