A police officer in the Dallas-Fort Worth area has been suspended after video footage emerged that shows him wrestle a bikini-clad girl to the ground and then point his gun at a group of unarmed teenagers.
The incident happened after McKinney Police Department received several calls on Friday night about a disturbance near the Craig Ranch North Community Pool.
Cell phone footage of the incident shows one officer arrive at the scene and start overreacting in a manner that does little to defuse the situation.

He didn’t use deadly force. In any situation, an encounter can go from serene to deadly.
Do you expect an officer to never pull out his gun, despite bring surrounded by people who might want to murder him?

Calmly. Like the other two cops who were speaking in a normal voice and repeating over and over for the kids to back up.
The girl was 14 and had to be terrified which is pretty evident when he threw her on the ground and she started wailing for her mom.
The cop escalated this situation because a group of teenagers was unruly. If he’s that scared or that not in control of himself then he has no business being a cop.
He’ll eventually hurt or kill somebody. The other cops didn’t lose their self control.
I did see he was the 2nd in charge of his police union so maybe his attitude problems stem from thinking he’ll never get busted on it.
If he’s a big man in the local cop union he’s probably used to getting away with stunts like this.
I’m pretty sure if it were you or your kid you wouldn’t have so much of a problem seeing that he lost his temper and seriously over reacted.

Tru dat. But bringing someone to the ground to handcuff them is not “deadly force”.
To add some context to this, the Dindu Nuffins are rioting outside of MetLife Center in New Jersey, right now, at the Hip-Hop Summer Jam Concert.

Demanding professionalism from law enforcement is conservatism, not PC or liberalism.
And this idiot officer’s life was not in danger. All of the other officers understood the situation and acted professionally. One officer acted like an idiot. And he’s the one you defend?
Usually, “how could he have handled the call better” is a hypothetical question. Here, it’s not. He should have handled it like every other officer on the scene. Professionally. With an authoritative presence, but in control. Not going crazy and escalating the situation all by himself.

In the movie ‘Wyatt Earp”, Wyatt disagrees with Ed Masterson working as a lawman, believing him to be too passive (Earp described Ed Masterson thusly — “He's amicable”. However, the Dodge City council decides that Ed is more acceptable than Wyatt due to the latter’s excessive force, and fires him, appointing Ed to take his place. Ed Masterson is then later shot dead in the street.
So, snarkybob, I say to you...”You're amicable .... and you just might not be cut out for law enforcement. And your advice to be amicable might get LEOs killed. Their spouses and children might not like that.

Pulling a firearm is.

He pulled his firearm and was clearly not in control.

Yes, unless you know a way to read peoples thoughts using your threshold would allow cops to shoot anyone they encountered on the grounds the “might” want to murder them.
Have you ever been afraid for your life? Answer that question first. I have, I have the scares to prove it. Just on my left arm I have three nasty scars from a knife attack. The cop was surrounded and was clearly afraid for his life. Those punks were trying to get the jump on him and he pulled his gun. To bad he did not get rid of some more trash. No body has the right to interfere with a cop trying to make a justified arrest. Add to the situation the hostile atmosphere and you have the recipe for mistakes. It is better to act like an idiot and live than to die.
Those other officers rushing up are probably the only reason someone didnt get shot.
So now pulling a firearm is deadly force.
Geez.
It’s nice to know that you can make such accurate assessments from a seven minute, highly edited video, out of a situation that was thirty minutes in the making.
If you believe that cops should never be able to pull out their revolver when they believe it to be necessary, then you should be fighting to disarm the police.
Officers are “amicable,” in your words—I would say “professional”—every single day. It’s part of the job. Officer safety does not require officers to be violent and aggressive, even out of control, on any and every call. The other officers at the scene were in control and professional. This guy wasn’t.
We really tend more toward routine surveillance of the private roads, and complaints when necessary, unless someone appears to be casing a house or looking for any kind of trouble. But on the topic of the thread, I disagree with brandishing a firearm at anyone for nothing more than trespassing, mouthing off or unarmed gesturing.
Should a cop arrest someone for threatening assault (which is assault) or interfering with another arrest? Yes, of course.
But pulling a deadly weapon? Not unless someone is in the process of trying to use deadly force. Training is a patrolman’s edge. Not big enough or in excellent physical condition? More training. There are also sticks when properly used, gas, tasers, etc.
And if there’s no backup for whatever reason, leave that department.
