Lennie Merullo, the last living Cubs player from the 1945 World Series, died Saturday. He was 98.
Merullo played seven seasons at shortstop with the Cubs from 1941-47. After Andy Pafko’s death in 2013, Merullo became the only living person to have played for the Cubs in a World Series.

Pro athletes are entertainers and as such are paid as actors are paid. NFL, MLB, NBA, make a huge buttload of money every year.
Salaries of high-paid players are FREQUENTLY derided by fans and the sports media when the player fails to play well.
It did take MLB time to recover popularity after the strike, luckily for them though it was the height of the steroids home run era. Any fan who said “they’d never watch again” was like a person who says “OMG that RINO is a bastard, I’m never voting Republican again”. Things said at the height of anger are always reconsidered.
The Cubs play in a ballpark, every other team is in a stadium.

They had an Iowa Cubs game on tv tonight, they beat the El Paso Chihuahuas (Their mascot has rabies) 8-4.

that lineup looks better than that going forward, so we expect them to run a strong 2nd to STL.
the cubs are a good past time for peoples who wanna avoid the AL East.

Rizzo and Bryant could be the DHs on TUES.
Bryant looks like he has struggled on defense at 3B. I expect a LHP to start for AL ... so I’d go with Bryant, but I expect the starting DH to be A-Gon or Rizzo.
AL has a starting lineup now with 9 RHB.
I used to like that one league used a DH and the other didn’t.
It was fun to see AL pitchers bat once a year.
But with the expanded interleague, which I thought was a good idea but now I kinda think it was mistake, I think they need to settle the question.
I would gamble there is nearly a 100% chance the NL will have DHs in the not too distant future. Because the union won’t let them get rid of it in the AL. And that’s a shame.
Or is it? Why not just have 9 DHs and 9 fielders? The game would be completely bastardized but you’d have more hitting and better fielding, win-win. Right? People were upset when football players stopping playing both sides of the ball but look at the NFL today. Are 9 DHs the wave of the future? I’m brilliant when I’m sleepy.
there is no reason to have a DH in an all-star game in an NL park. No pitcher will bat, even with no DH.
I used to like the all-star game ... but too much of it makes no sense.
I heard on the ESPN that they changed the format of the home run derby, I wasn’t paying attention but it sounded complicated.
Rizzo starts at DH for NL, bats 6th.
