Per related articles/threads, he had a net worth of $270k when he went to DC and between $4 and $17 million when he left the House.
The only thing I can think of is he got good advice from Hillary or someone on investments in cattle futures.

It does make one wonder, considering that his Congressional salary probably averaged around $150k per year.
But then we have the Clintons who were dead broke when they left the WH and have managed to accumulate around $2 Billion into their various name-sake foundation(s) and charities.
