Arizona State has doubled tuition, finds $500K to give to Clintons

While Arizona State University has almost doubled its tuition over the past 10 years amid claims that it needs more state money, the school somehow had the funds to give half a million dollars to the Clinton Foundation.

According to The Arizona Republic, the public university paid $500,000 to the Clinton Foundation to host the former president-Bill Clinton; former-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton; and their daughter, Chelsea, during a Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) event in 2014. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Bill’s wife, is the current front-runner for the Democratic nomination for the 2016 presidential race.

Mark Johnson, an ASU spokesman, told The Republic that the university was a payment for the event—not a contribution to the Clintons.

"Frankly, if I had known that that was the situation, that they were being paid $500,000, I would have spoken up at the time that I thought it was outrageous."

Why not ask for a refund?

Why not be honest?

The university’s officers were using university funds to bring the Clintons to the university so they could hobnob with and get their pictures with the Clintons.

Ok, so the question is...the people who approved the $500k....what did they expect in return? Jobs with the foundation? Some exemption to bring in massive numbers of foreign students? A gimmick with the Saudi government attached? You don’t waste $500k like this...unless you get something in return.

When Bill was Governor of Arkansas, he was known to be corrupt. When he got elected President, I thought "Well, that kind of Arkansas corruption will never fly in DC. Too many powerful groups to put up with that nonsense.

Well, Bill proved me wrong. Bill brought the wide scale corruption of Arkansas to DC, and the political class wholeheartedly embraced it.

I only wonder what our country would be like of George HW Bush had won a second term.

Even when you ‘gift’ other people’s money....you expect something. Legislative folks expect votes. City council folks approving infrastructure improvements....expect bribes from construction companies. At the end of each of these transactions...there’s a pay-back. What did AZ state think they were getting?

Go look at the current FIFA business. The FIFA idiots were going to get paid back with bribes. When the Democrats wrote up the new banking regulations...they were going to get campaign contributions. There’s always payback.

I wonder if Hillary will use the term “we’re flat broke” again on the campaign trail. For that matter, I wonder if she will use the term “I ain’t no ways tard” on the campaign trail this year. I guess the real question is, when is she going to actually come out on the campaign trail and start speaking to the little people and start taking questions.

Thanks for posting this. I intend to save a copy and send it to the ASU Alumni Foundation the next time they send me a letter asking for a contribution.

Why isn’t it against the law for public colleges and universities to spend money for speakers? If the speakers won’t speak for free, find someone else.

That BS is why I no longer donate as an alumnus although not ASU. These universities ( no those individuals that made this decision) need named just as those in any institution or corporation (as in CEO) that make ultimate decisions. The news media typically makes it anonymous....names should be named.

Universities have a goal of working the system for the personal gain of CEO and admin rather than educating American students at best cost.

When the PRC bought the Worthen Bank in Little Rock everyone should have known the Clinton’s level of corruption. China wanted to be close to their investment.

It’s a sad state of affairs when the people aren’t pissed off about tax dollars being given to Chelsea Clinton. She’s never done a thing in her life except run her mouth and be ugly.

Mark Johnson, an ASU spokesman, told The Arizona Republic that the $500,000 payment was for the Clinton Global Initiative University event—--not a contribution to the Clintons.

Well, that certainly explains it (breathes a sigh of relief). Really nice to know the cash-strapped public university wasn't party to the greedy Clintons sucking-up a-n-o-t-h-e-r $500,000 (/sarc).

BTW---how did the Clintons handle the $500,000 on their tax-exempt foundation disclosure forms and on their tax returns?
