Rick Santorum, the former Republican senator from Pennsylvania, will announce today that he will seek the GOP nomination for president in 2016, ABC News has learned. ABC News' Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos will sit down for an exclusive interview with Santorum this afternoon.

Santorum, 57, is set to reveal his presidential intentions at an event today in Cabot, Pa., near his childhood home. It will be his second run for the White House, almost four years after he won primaries and caucuses in 11 states and finished second to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in the race for the Republican nomination.

No one wants to be an object of charity. When someone is an object of charity, they feel obligated and even a little ashamed.

Yet withal, charity is one of the most lovely things in Christianity, and we are commanded to engage in it.

Charity requires mercy and kindness on the part of the giver; it is a moral act that requires that the giver voluntarily go without for him and his, in order to make sure someone in need has more. That person who receives charity KNOWS this and is morally indebted to repay with charity toward others. Charity is a beautiful thing because it is a purely MORAL act.

When government takes over charity, it REMOVES "voluntary" from the equation. It REMOVES mercy and kindness from the equation. It REMOVES obligation from the equation.

When government takes over charity, as misguided Christian Santorum ADVOCATES for government to do, then givers become SLAVES and receivers become ENTITLED DEPENDENTS.

Any Christian who advocates using government to take over the Christian duties of individuals, is unwittingly promoting amorality and evil. Government "charity" makes it so productive people are FORCED to fund the lifestyles of those who are slothful, self-indulgent, and promiscuous, and it allows those dependents to live such with out material consequence.

Santorum is as WRONG as any Democrat. Santorum uses the word "conservative" as code for Christian. He also uses the phrase "family" as code for "Christian." Straight-talking and conservative use of government elude him entirely. Santorum stinks as much now as he did four years ago.

I know I’ll invite flames for this, but social liberalism will kill us much quicker, and more finally, then fiscal liberalism, which can be undone. We cannot live with both, but once the foundation of morality is compromised and then attacked, it is nonsense to trying building a structure of fiscal conservatism on it.

no, not necessarily. Economic liberty is what is known as SANCTITY OF LIFE OUTSIDE THE WOMB, and if you accept economic liberalism as part of a bargain, you are going to invite the government into you life and your pocket book and destroy your opportunity and any ability to be of any use on social issues.

When gubermint owns your money, your business, your family, they OWN YOU period.

Dear Rick,

You are a very nice person with integrity, however there is nothing you can bring to this field. Please stay home.

The "reward" for all of these third-rate candidates is obvious. They get face time and the ability to raise money for their campaigns, which they then parlay into book/TV deals and other Beltway employment opportunities. It's basically just a well-crafted strategy to avoid the need to ever go out and get a real job.

Newt Gingrich perfected this career path.

2012

Romney 52.13%
Santorum 20.43%
Gingrich 14.21%
Paul 10.89%

==

Santorum could not have won, even if Gingrich and Paul dropped out and those votes went to Santorum.

==

Romney 1,462 Delegates
Santorum 234 Delegates
Paul 154 Delegates
Gingrich 137 Delegates

you have no idea how liberal Santorum is outside of a few social issues......and you have no idea how offputting he is to the vast majority.

Considering those that have jumped in, or are planning to (in order of good to worse on the establishment/RINO scale):

Rand Paul
Carly Fiorina
Scott Walker
Marco Rubio
Mike Huckabee
Jeb Bush

NONE of them come CLOSE to Ted Cruz, and what he has to offer and where he stands in regards to the “establishment”, RINO’s and doing what he says he’s going to do, IMO. In fact, I would wager that Ted Cruz is the farthest candidate AWAY from the GOP-E. He is the ANTI-PROGRESSIVE. How can people not see this?

Newt was the only guy with a chance to win. But he imploded in Florida, his own doing, and the undoing of his idiotic advisors - and it was over after Florida.

Everything after that was merely place and show....the win was Mitts after Florida, like it was McCains after Florida in 08.

A conservative must win by doing good in Iowa, screw NH, then win SC and take momentum into Florida and win. The estabs can win by winning NH and then taking Florida from the conservatives.
