WASHINGTON — Sen. Ted Cruz — who lives in Houston and has his presidential campaign headquarters there — will join Gov. Greg Abbott this afternoon for a briefing on storm damage, a Cruz aide said.

They’ll hear from emergency officials and law enforcement, and attend a news conference at 4pm CT at the Houston Office Of Emergency Management.

Abbott announced earlier that he would survey flood damage and meet with local leaders to discuss state recovery resources. He spoke a few hours ago with President Barack Obama, and a federal emergency declaration of some sort seems likely.

I don’t think most people understand that FEMA doesn’t ever “do” anything because they aren’t supposed to...

FEMA is a facilitator of other agencies and government and non-government organizations.

They assist local and state governments, they organize and help collaboration and communication, but as for the hands on work ... the reason no one ever sees them “on the street” is because that’s never ever their proper role.

Gotcha. Dont like the handouts. Should be loans maybe. Or the states form a fund. During an 1800s dustbowl, the pres turned his back. I dont know the answer

I hope Governor Abbott refuses any help monetarily or otherwise from the federal government.

JMHO but we can’t pick and choose the role of the federal government based on how things are going at any particular minute.

If Abbott accepts help from the feds He’s lost my vote.

I’m not sure what she is/was taking. Can’t believe that the 4th largest city in the U.S. has such a dolt for a mayor. Terribly ill prepared and came off like a space cadet. Mumbled and hesitant speech - sounded like a female BO.

** sounded like a female BO **

She usually does.

I did hear her on the radio early this morning and she sounded reasonably coherent. Perhaps she had been up all night and was gittin’ tard later in the day.

She’s GLBT first, Mayor second, Texan never.. sounds like her cocoon of certainty with the queer jihad is under duress.

First, I would like to thank you for not launching into name calling for what I posted. Second, the NRO guy was not repeating his published stances on immigration issues, but his legislation or attempted legislation on immigration issues. I choose to go by his actions, not his words. I use to like Cruz, but he stunned me with his vote on the trade bill.

And what your "NRO guy" left out were all the votes and actions that Ted Cruz has taken in support of his stated positions listed on NumbersUSA.com. Please point out where his actions have not coincided with his stated positions?

And frankly, his vote on the trade bill is consistent with his stated positions on trade as well.

They are well thought out and I support him fully for the reasons he has stated here:

Sen. Cruz: Trade Promotion Authority Creates a Path for Prosperity

“Please point out where his actions have not coincided with his stated positions?

That is just it. The things Ramesh Ponnura mentioned in his post were ACTIONS Cruz took in the U.S. Senate. They were not campaign blather. They were ACTIONS. And these ACTIONS did not coincide with his STATED positions. Don’t get angry with Ponnura, he is just the messenger.

Cruz also offered an amendment to expand H-1B visas by a factor of five.

11. Reduce Total Immigration - Until 1976, U.S. immigration tradition was an average of around 250,000 a year; since new legislation in 1990, it has averaged 1,000,000 a year. More than 38 million foreign workers and dependents now live in the U.S. At current rates, immigration will add more than 100 million additional people to the U.S. population by 2060. This government-forced rapid population expansion will require huge increases in energy, roads and other infrastructure and services.
[Do you favor reducing overall immigration numbers toward the traditional levels? - Cruz: Yes]

That's heartening information - I'd love to be able to wholeheartedly support Ted Cruz - but it runs counter to his more recent H-1B expansion proposal. I hope the Cruz campaign clarifies this issue sooner rather than later.

If you actually ran the numbers, you’d know that his latest H1-B proposal and his stated position on NumbersUSA do not conflict with each other.

You're welcome!

I remain a Cruz man, primarily because unlike Walker, he sticks to his positions, and as of yet, does not pander.

Your Numbers USA data about Ted Cruz is 3 years old.

Actually, it's worse than old. It was compiled BEFORE he was elected to the US Senate.

I have repeatedly posted more current links on Senator Cruz's “new” immigration policies.

Quick summary of what Cruz now favors - 500% increase in H-1B work visas - More guest workers for Texas ranchers and farmers - Supports the work permit outlined in the Gang of Eight Amnesty - Gave a speech in El Paso stating he would deport no illegals who had obeyed all other USA laws - Since being elected, has never spoken publicly about stopping anchor babies or chain migration or reducing the number of legal immigrants (now 1.25 million per year).

One other thing...

In 2000, Cruz was a contributing author of George W. Bush's immigration policy paper. That paper became the framework for the Bush-McCain Amnesty in 2005. Cruz has never clarified what role he played in writing that paper, or, if he actually supported the Bush-McCain Amnesty.

Please see my post #35.

Cruz's immigration policy since being elected to the Senate has changed on many issues, not just the 500% increase in H-1B’s.

Whoops.

Forgot to mention that Cruz now wants to increase Green Cards by 100%, and increase the legal yearly quota for Mexican and Chinese immigrants who have family in the USA.

My links are to the New York Times, the Houston Chronicle online, and two You Tube videos of Cruz during the Gang of Eight Amnesty debate.

I can look them up if you must have them.

Links coming right up.

I’ve posted these at least 6 times in the last few months.

By the way - A few weeks ago, MSNBC challenged Cruz on some of the same stuff I posted here. Cruz gave rambling, evasive answers, then his chief-of-staff sent MSNBC an almost unbelievable email interpretation of what Cruz said, then, the whole issue died.

I will probably still vote for Cruz, but he will instantly betray us on immigration if he is elected.

I can’t find a direct Cruz quote against deportation, just an often repeated NY Slimes paraphrase. But I did find this: http://www.kausfiles.com/2015/05/21/cruz-and-amnesty-round-ii-the-telltale-video/
