Baltimore officials are estimating the city's costs from April rioting at $20 million.

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake's administration will ask the city's Board of Estimates to approve a $20 million supplement to the city's 2015 budget to pay for overtime, equipment and public works costs run up during the civil unrest that came to a head April 27.

The requested riot costs are the first time city officials have offered a public estimate.

I'm sure they have some stimulus money stashed away in a rainy-riot fund.

Baltimore Received $1.8 Billion from Obama’s Stimulus Law

Can’t they just fine CVS $20 million for the air pollution their fire caused?

Human life was safer during the riots than this past weekend in Baltimore.

That's so the thugs that are already on the ground can read it.

Funniest line all day, IMHO.

I am sure 0bama will send them some of our money to rebuild, and think of the jobs that will be created to repair and reconstruct the neighborhoods! It will be a great stimulus to the Baltimore economy, probably take thousands off welfare when they get hired to rebuild, right? (/s)

“Baltimore estimates riot costs at $20 million”

Totally worth it. After all, the rioters were not denied the necessary “space to destroy”. It would have been a complete tragedy to deny them that simply for the want of a measly $20 million in damage to private property, no doubt, most of which was covered by evil insurance companies owned and operated by plutocratic one-percenter capitalist pigs.

The figure gets lower the longer the riots go on, because the more land gets cleared, the more it's all worth. Thanks Oldeconomybuyer.

Plus the lost revenue of business meetings that were canceled (hotels, booze, food), and events that would have been planned to locate in Baltimore but now will not.

I predict tickets for night games for the Orioles will go for a song.

Nice going Steph - you’re now about on par with NYC’s deBlasio.

You're just critical of ethnic performance art is all. The rest of us are standing back and admiring the inner meaning and truths of the expression of angst that is to be found in the burnt pharmacy and the despoiled streets!

Myself, I think the ruins should be left as a monument to the success of one-party Democrat rule in the urban environment.

Philadelphia had the answer:

POLICE DROP BOMB ON RADICALS’ HOME IN PHILADELPHIA

By WILLIAM K. STEVENS, Special to the New York Times
Published: May 14, 1985

PHILADELPHIA, May 13— A state police helicopter this evening dropped a bomb on a house occupied by an armed group after a 24-hour siege involving gun battles.

A 90-minute shootout this morning came after a week of growing tension between the city and the group, known as Move. Residents in the western Philadelphia neighborhood had complained about the group for years. The only known survivors from within the house were a woman and a child.

The fire spread to 50 to 60 other houses in the neighborhood, said the Fire Commissioner, William Richmond. He declared the fire under control about 11:40 P.M.

Aimed to Hit Bunker

The Police Commissioner, Gregore Sambor, said tonight that it was was his decision to drop the charge, a square package of explosives designed to destroy a bunker atop the house and drop it through to the second floor. He said the charge succeeded in eliminating the threat from the roof, but touched off the fire. ... http://www.nytimes.com/1985/05/14/us/police-drop-bomb-on-radicals-home-in-philadelphia.html

Reminds me of when they blew up the dead whale with TNT....
Maybe they should have just dropped a giant chunk of concrete on top of the house instead.
