US Vice President Joe Biden on Monday sought to end an embarrassing rift between Washington and Baghdad after Pentagon boss Ashton Carter blamed Iraqi forces for the fall of Ramadi.
The White House said Biden called Iraqi's prime minister Haider al-Abadi, just hours after the US Defense Secretary's suggested the Islamic State group won control of the city because "Iraqi forces showed no will to fight," according to AFP.
Biden "recognized the enormous sacrifice and bravery of Iraqi forces over the past eighteen months in Ramadi and elsewhere," the White House said.
As well as rowing back Carter's comments, Biden called to "reaffirm US support for the Iraqi government's fight against" Islamic State jihadists.

Amateur hour once again.
“Hold muh brain and watch this !”
They send Biden to fix the gaffe?
It appears that some in this administration are losing patience with the incompetence of the admin’s upper levels.
I know, right? Unreal.
So true. Ted Mack would have made a better president.
He was just practicing fixing his own gaffes, so he’d be ready for when Ashton Carter (any relation?) says something dumb. It was god statesmanship, all those brain farts. That’s what it was.
What a laugh...especially on Memorial Day when we remember all those who sacrificed. These leftist criminals are too much.
This is one of the very rare moments when I agree with someone from the Obama Administration. I’ve heard remarks like these before, “They don’t feel like Iraqi’s, they identify more as Sunni or Shia”, They haven’t gotten past this boxed in perception yet? Makes you want to let ISIS take them. The only problem to that is the continued strengthening of ISIS, and the acompaninying increased danger to all of the civilized world. Where are Big Boy and Little Boy when you need them, just to stomp those ISIS bugs out once and for all? We may have to resort to those measures. Or convince Saudi Arabia to do it.
Getting ready to throw his brain in the ring?
OOOPS....TOO FUNNY...LOL
He didn’t make a gaffe. He told the truth. The Iraqi army outnumbered the attackers at least two to one. They were defending their home turf.
They turned and fled, leaving their equipment.
Americans fought hard for that city. All they had to do was sit in defense and repel a far weaker attacking force.
But I guess we shouldn’t say the truth, that would be undiplomatic and might upset the world order. So best for Biden to apologize, hang medals on all the Iraqis that fled, and see if we can figure out how to get Americans to do it for them.
There was nothing to apologize for here. The diplomatic order is badly in need of some honesty.
Diplomacy...honesty...
See dictionary under ‘oxymoron’.
Joe Biden..is rumored to think that Ted Mack was.... a POTUS
Yep. SMH.
