US mathematician John Nash, whose life story was turned into the Oscar-winning film A Beautiful Mind, has died in a car crash, local media has reported.
Nash, 86, and his wife Alicia were both killed when their taxi crashed in New Jersey, the reports said.
The mathematician is renowned for his work in game theory, winning the Nobel Prize for Economics in 1994.
His breakthroughs in maths - and his struggles with schizophrenia - were the focus of the film.

I am guessing it was an edit to get the story down to the proper size. It was probably shortened from Mathematics. Some whiz kid working on the Sunday morning of a three day weekend simply figured it was a “real” word.
The “A” team is not working today.
I agree, most people will choose to wear seat belts. But I would like it to be my choice, not Big Government’s.
I’m very lucky. Wifey always reminds me to “buckle up” when she is driving. And with that you can draw your own conclusions :)
That’s how the brits say it. I don’t know why. But it is very common.
“Maths” is proper British English. They have a different way with plurals compared to American English. Large corporations are plural, “Ford are,” “BP are.” There is more than one kind of math, so it’s “maths.” There’s a logic to it, but it sounds odd to us.
Standard, or at least common, Brit usage.
A different driver might have helped too.
Perhaps exempt from enforcement, but not the law. Also, I can not imagine a delivery type company, or a police department not requiring seat belts be worn... merely as a matter of protection from liability for when the deceased former employee's family sues.
Seat belts for perps in police vans.
No seat belts for kids in buses and apparently taxis.
Just repeating the conventional "wisdom" of the day.
Unless it is a commuter express there is plenty of room on trains. Hardly ever does anyone stand.
As far as belts? I am so sick of safety NAZIs. Being on a train is a treat and basically telling people they need to buckle in takes one of the great things about trains away: the freedom of movement. Are they also going to buckle up people in their sleepers? The hell with that.
The couple was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, Williams said.

My thoughts too. Also glad they were already aged and didn’t have to watch either go downhill and die.
All the keywords look like they represent different aspects of his life.
“They became mental health care advocates when their son John was also diagnosed with schizophrenia.”
Is schizophrenia hereditary? If so, how can anyone with it be so irresponsible and selfish as to want to have kids.
Me too. I am all about choice. Wearing a belt or not does not interfere with anyone else’s rights, so it is none of anyone’s business to molest me and violate the 4th Amend.
There were seat belts in the taxi they were riding in and chose not to use them.
It is odd. As a fan of the RevWar I frequently run across their insistence on writing such as “the enemy ARE on the move...” Drives me crazy.
It’s a cost-benefit nalysis. It’s a pain in the butt buckling unbuckling for stops that are 50 ft apart.
I also suspect this kind of mentality is why we seem to have more kids left in cars to die of exposure. Buckle in and forget them, or it’s convenient to have them strapped in so they don’t get n trouble.
Thank you so much for that. I loved it. I loved it so much that I watched a few more including the 1998 after 20 years he was out of the business. Very interesting and it was a treat that I enjoyed so much.
Thanks again!
Bob
It has a genetic component that may or may not be passed on.
It also has a stress component.
People who have the genetic component may never become actively schizophrenic if they never reach a stress threshold that activates it.
Schizophrenia doesn’t manifest itself typically until one is in his late teens or early 20s and it may be years after that before the symptoms become severe.
In Nash’s case, he wasn’t diagnosed until his early 30s. In fact, his wife was pregnant with their son when he was diagnosed and she had him committed not too long before the boy was born.
