A Cleveland cop cleared Saturday on state charges in the deaths of two unarmed people in a 137-shot barrage of police gunfire could face federal charges.
The Justice Department said after the acquittal of Officer Michael Brelos on voluntary manslaughter charges that it would "review all available legal options."
"We will now review the testimony and evidence presented in the state trial" to determine if "additional steps are available and appropriate," the department said.
Vanita Gupta, head of the department's civil rights division said the review is separate from its efforts to resolve a pattern of civil rights violations at the Cleveland police department. A report in December outlined a string of examples of excessive force, including officers who unnecessarily fired guns, hit suspects in the head with weapons, and punched and used Tasers on people already handcuffed.

Yep, and sadder yet for six years Holder loaded the DOJ with over a hundred hires with backgrounds just like hers.
Not exactly. Brelo jumped onto the hood of the car after it had crashed and fired 15 rounds at point blank range into the occupants. Who turned out to not have any guns in the car, although reports had gone out that shots were being fired from the car. False reports, as it turned out.
Why it’s “necessary” to fire 15 more rounds into people who’ve been stopped and probably already shot numerous times is beyond me.
As I said on another thread, it would appear that police officers must allow obvious felons (that is, persons whom they have observed committing felonies) at least one chance to shoot them before they are allowed to employ deadly force. At least when the observed felons are African American.
NY Slimes headline “Ohio cop to be Lynched”
Wasn't part of the reason given that it was a few seconds time, and with all of the shooting going on, the officer was overwhelmed? (paraphrasing)
I don't understand that part either. But I do understand the cops over-reacting to that car which was a threat to everyone and everything in its path.
The question that's never going to have an answer is why did the driver take off when the police approached him.
Just in time for:
“Cleveland chosen to host 2016 Republican National Convention ...”
The DoJ is completely in the hands of anti-Americans. Their job is now to take out local police.
So much for being judged by a jury of your peers and so much for the Justice systme when the Feds can go after a person found not guilty for political reasons............
The problem was - legally - that there was no evidence that his shots were the ones that killed them. They may have been already dead when he shot them. The medical examiner couldn’t say which bullets killed them.
Also, other police at the scene thought they were still dangerous. They were trying to run over the cops with their car.
And Sharpton’s hair was perfect.
I understand the critical importance of stopping the car. But Brelo’s actions were after the car was stopped.
The car may have backfired, leading the cops to believe there was an active shooter in it.
But seems to me that once the car was stopped they would have had time to address the situation a little more thoughtfully. 137 shots fired is appallingly bad fire discipline. In a populated area, those shots are going God knows where.
I believe our troops in Iraq were often operating under considerably more strict ROEs than these guys were apparently under.
Holder II, the Sequel. Thanks for that, RINOs.
If so it’s been going on under Constitutional eyes since the start of the Regime. Sometimes it inures to the harm of one group, sometimes another group. Those who use it can’t complain on a very firm foundation when it comes against them.
“perhaps AL Sharpton Jr...will join forces with Al SENIOR for the new wave of Riots? “
His daughter can join in if she has recovered from her injury.
I’d like to meet his tailor!

the whole family including Revrunt Al’s Brother might show up.
You couldn’t pay me enough money to be a cop now. I can’t say that I would blame ‘em for hanging around the donut shop. Just a thought: cops don’t normally shoot at you unless you give them a good reason to do so.
