Actually, it's the Republicans and their major donors pushing this and most all major trade agreements. They're working with Obama just as they worked with Slick Willie to pass NAFTA. They want this TPP more than anything they fear about Obama.
And they know the terms of this agreement are being specified as much by transnational corporations as by Obama's trade reps. The real question might be what political pressures or ideologies caused Slick and Obama to support trade agreements the Dem. party largely opposed, and the Republican party largely supported.
Several conservative talkers and many others have framed their opposition as opposing any colluding with Obama, or not trusting Obama, but this is something most national Republican politicians want. - And those corporate players who heavily influence, or even dictate our trade policies, don't change much no matter who is president.
If you ask just corporate America without asking anyone else you get some weird ideas about what ought to be. Remember there was a lot of corporate support for Bummercare.
