Two senators have a plane to catch to Cuba, others were hoping to impress Republican presidential primary voters and then theres Sen. Lamar Alexander, who is slated to deliver a sunset piano performance of Ol Man River on the banks of the Mississippi.
The Senates slow-motion amble toward Memorial Day break threatened all that.
Its not the weather, its the Senate thats the problem, said Alexander, the Tennessee Republican and former governor, as he waited out the impasse in his office Friday. On a borrowed Senate piano, he tapped out The Memphis Blues, with a wink, eager to head home for the performance Saturday with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. Hes got seats on two separate plane flights home booked for Saturday.
I, he resolved, will be there. [ ]
At issue Friday were extending the expiring provisions in the Patriot Act that give the National Security Agency its surveillance power, extending transportation funding for two months and giving President Barack Obama authority to negotiate a sweeping trade agreement with Pacific nations. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., deployed a well-used trick: threatening to stay in session until the remaining issues are resolved, even if that means taking a bite out of the weekend.

Edit: FACE the facts of this.
Yeah, Putin cares so much for America that he’s helping Iran get nukes faster than Obama is.
“Bipartisanship: the polite way of saying We will rape you vigorously instead if simply raping you casually for the good of us both.
A good analogy. But it’s missing something.....
I know! The admonition to lie back and enjoy it.
I never called them a lesser evil.
Where are the “Vote for the Lesser Evil” Rino lovin liberal Republicans?
We need a ping list!
Is he? Is he really? It doesn’t look like it with Barry calling every marker on the planet to get the Iran insanity passed and the GOP supporting him.
Yesterday one was crying about having his own feet held to the fire.
I don’t remember you being on the crew running around demanding people vote for liberal Republicans and calling anyone refusing to go along unAmerican traitors either.
Or posting pictures of Yosemitie Sam on a Dragon as intelligent political commentary for that matter. But if you in fact backed lesser evil candidates after they TOLD US ALL they would ‘work with Obama”, then it’s sorta hard to avoid responsibility. If you didn’t, Good.
Indeed.
What do you call selling them all the hardware then?
I will give him this, that he never pretended to be their enemy like BHO did.
“Ill wager only one or two have actually read what theyre voting for or against.”
And it wouldn’t have mattered anyway.
I think I’ve finally figured out what separates most of us from the political class, and why I couldn’t be a successful politician. If you or I or most anyone here saw a prostitute lying on the sidewalk, dying, what we we would think is OMIGOD! Call an ambulance! Get this woman some help!
A member of the political class, on the other hand, would wonder if they had enough time to get in a quickie before she expired.
Thats it exactly. He is what he is. What Obama and the GOP is doing in our name is about as vile as it gets.
I dont remember you being on the crew running around demanding people vote for liberal Republicans and calling anyone refusing to go along unAmerican traitors either.
Remember the “Hillary Thanks You” scaremongers? Where’s the rest of the Liberal-Republican contingent?
“Where are the Vote for the Lesser Evil Rino lovin liberal Republicans? We need a ping list!”
We already have them. You can start with the Ted Cruz list....he voted for this abomination.
“We have to face the facts of this. And they ARE facts. The GOP is on the other team.”
Norm, its worse than that. They’re on the same team and actively working to destroy what’s left of the American middle class.
Making new excuses for why their support of Lesser evil is true conservatism. As always, they do their damage on slow news days and then vanish when their mistakes and their evil become apparent to all. Then come back with yet more excuses.
To be sure the dumber ones pop um here and there but you can set your watch by the A-team. The only way I think that will change is when they realize most here ‘genuinely’ abandoned the lesser evil nonsense and won’t be joining their reindeer games any more. Then there will be a vanishing, or a greatly upgraded effort. I’d bet on #2.
Oh I agree and say so often.
And that was absolutely strike one for me. I’m a Cruzer but that was a BAD mistake.
“Well, I feel like a moron for thinking they would try to do something good for our country.”
Ted Cruz voted yes. I admit that I was drawn in by his schtick. I’m rarely anyone’s fool. Looks like I am a Fool with a capital F this time.
“And that was absolutely strike one for me. Im a Cruzer but that was a BAD mistake.”
You’re far more charitable than I. He’s a smart, calculating, and aware person. This wasn’t done out of ignorance or intellectual sloth. He knew what the implications were for our future, and chose to betray the middle class and his supporters just the same. He’s done the calculus and figured the rubes aren’t smart enough to connect the dots.
That sloshing sound is my washing my hands.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
