Magnitude 5.4 quake hits Nevada, close to Las Vegas -USGS

WASHINGTON, May 22 (Reuters) - A magnitude 5.4 quake struck Nevada on Friday, close to the town of Helene, northeast of Las Vegas, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

It said the quake, which was quite shallow at a depth of only 12 miles (19.4 km), was close to the border with Utah. The epicenter was located some 90 miles northeast (145 km) from Las Vegas. (Reporting by Sandra Maler; Editing by Eric Beech)

90mi is close.

Its depends on the tremble itself. I was living in the AZ desert 250mi from Northridge and it sent my pool sloshing something fierce back in the day.

It rolled through like a wet blanket. It is unnerving.

The cycles between large quakes are way beyond my understanding

the big talk about the soon coming BIG ONE...in California has been going on for so many years that I’m thinking it may be utter speculation

This is good to know, Hoover Dam was designed with Earthquakes in mind.

“Hoover Dam in the US built in the 1930s was the first concrete dam designed against earthquake where both the inertial effects of the dam and the hydrodynamic pressure of the reservoir were taken into account.”

ah yes shift tectonic plates might otherwise...upset....the dam..and THAT would be quite the disaster indeed,
