The Year That Changed Jeb Bush Forever (He Went Native)
Politico ^ | May 21, 2015 | Michael Krause

Posted on 05/22/2015 6:13:14 AM PDT by C19fan

He was born in Midland, Texas, and he spent a good bit of his boyhood in Houston, and he went to high school in Andover, Massachusetts, and to college in Austin, Texas, and he has lived for the last three and a half decades in Miami. But at the top of the list of the most important places in the world in the life of Jeb Bush is the central Mexican state of Guanajuato, and its conservative, old-world Catholic capital of León. León is why he proposed marriage in Spanish, why his three children are Mexican-American, why his favorite foods are enchiladas and chilaquiles — why he is not a Protestant like the rest of his pedigreed New England family.

Dauphin Bush traveled to Mexico as part of a what would be described today as a "Studies" class and went native. The reading list from the class is straight out of teaching the evils of "white privilege".

I guess I’ve gone part native.

I’ve always preferred Mex to any other cuisine.

Though more accurately Mexican is a group of cuisines.

Personally I think we have had enough of a “foreign” president.

Maybe he should audition for Survivor instead of the White House.

He went “native” ... and it still wasn’t enough.
It’s sort of like voting for a Rino. Why vote for a Rino when you can have a real Democrat?
I’ll take a real Ted Cruz and a real conservative?
Sorry, Jebbie, Trix are for kids.

“The primary objective of education,” Lyons would write later in a publication called The Independent School Bulletin, “is to bring about some behavioral change in the student.”

Well, that's revealing. It simply assumes that the student and his beliefs and behaviors are wrong and bad. So any change is by definition for the better.

The actual purpose of education is to provide the student with a background of knowledge about his and other societies, and the world in general. This will allow him to make independent choices about whether and how his behaviors and beliefs need to change.

It's like the famous bumper sticker: Question Authority.

Quite right, we should.

But sometimes the answer is that Authority is right.

Wait a minute. He went to college in Austin and his ‘dumb’ brother has two Ivy League degrees. Where’s that story been. For almost two decades we’ve heard Jeb was the smart one.

After reading, just the FR excerpt. There is nothing bad that Bush did by that.

It’s his politics that suck. He can worship as a snake handler, marry a Mexican, have Australian Aboriginal children and like Eskimo muktuk cuisine. But a RINO is a RINO and that is the deal breaker

Going “native” isn’t a problem in and of itself. Most latin countries deal with illegal immigration and have rather strong feelings about it. I’ve never had any problem explaining immigration policy to anyone the moment you put it in terms that they understand, which is in terms of their own country.

Most countries would like some kind of preferential treatment with respect to the US, but quite well understand that the rest need to be dealt with humanely but firmly.

Which is the tremendous disappointment of Jeb Bush. He is uniquely positioned and qualified to explain these kinds of issues to latin americans, and to Americans at large, rather than simply pandering. He chooses to pander.
