Neighbours Club Together To Buy Furniture For Sikh Who Removed Turban to Save Boy
Nice. But now it’s a headline that a guy shows a sign of assimilating?
Finally those turbines are useful. Good for this guy
While I know and recognize that Sikhism is not a monotheistic religion, still my first thought is that any loving God would prefer life to be saved over standard rules of religious behavior. I am pretty certain that over the years many of all religions have done similar praise-worthy things with religious items.
As a comparison and contrast though, I am reminded of the fanatics who boarded up and killed school girls in a burning building because they would not be properly clothed if they fled the building. My head and heart has a hot place for people to end up for eternity!
Sikhs are good people. I used to work with one, an engineer. He wore his turban every day, and immaculate dressed.
One Saturday we were working overtime on a project, so the rest of the company (300+) was not there. He came in and I didn’t recognize him! He was not wearing his turban and suit. He was wearing some loose fitting robe thing and his hair and beard were nearly floor length!
So if you want to know what’s in that turban, it’s their hair and beard!...................
What a hero, he took off his turban to save a child’s life.
For westerners, some of the important values of Sikhs they can appreciate.
1) Monotheistic. One God only.
2) Opposed to discrimination due to religion, race, gender, or social status.
3) Are more realistic, less idealistic. They believe in both good thoughts and good deeds.
4) Strong believers in secular military service, and loyalty to the army in which they serve. (The Indian Sikh regiment is one of the most decorated regiments in the world, including 14 Victoria Crosses as part of the British Army. Sikhs fought in WWI, WWII, and other conflicts.)
5) Typically Sikhs are middle class and are attracted to entrepreneurial and professional lines of work.
6) Both Muslims and Hindus have tried to oppress them in past, and they do fight back if attacked.
7) Were banned from US military service in the 1980s, and the Army still strongly resists their return, but two Sikhs have been permitted to serve and deploy, a doctor and a dentist.
Life above doctrine. If a Muslim woman did the same with her headscarf they’d stone her as a whore!
