'A sikh man in New Zealand removed his turban to save a boys life and his story is going viral.
Harman Singh used his turban to stem the bleeding of a five-year-old boy who had been hit by a car on his way to school.
Men of the Sikh religion are expected to keep their heads covered by turbans at all times in public.'

What a hero, he took off his turban to save a child’s life.
For westerners, some of the important values of Sikhs they can appreciate.
1) Monotheistic. One God only.
2) Opposed to discrimination due to religion, race, gender, or social status.
3) Are more realistic, less idealistic. They believe in both good thoughts and good deeds.
4) Strong believers in secular military service, and loyalty to the army in which they serve. (The Indian Sikh regiment is one of the most decorated regiments in the world, including 14 Victoria Crosses as part of the British Army. Sikhs fought in WWI, WWII, and other conflicts.)
5) Typically Sikhs are middle class and are attracted to entrepreneurial and professional lines of work.
6) Both Muslims and Hindus have tried to oppress them in past, and they do fight back if attacked.
7) Were banned from US military service in the 1980s, and the Army still strongly resists their return, but two Sikhs have been permitted to serve and deploy, a doctor and a dentist.
Sikh gangs are heavily involved in the west coast drug business.
Sikh businesses in Canada require knowledge of punjabi, so of course employees have to be flown in from punjab.
The first ever act of terrorism in Canada was committed by a sikh.
etc.
Life above doctrine. If a Muslim woman did the same with her headscarf they’d stone her as a whore!
You are correct. I read about Vancouver’s Sikh gangs a few years ago. Their business is selling drugs
I suppose there is no group of people anywhere in the world who are uniformly good and commit no crimes.
Why is it a headline
In these days of religious hatred and extremism, the story is about man whose common humanity overrode his religious beliefs.
Sikhs for many years drove our taxis in Manhattan. After 9/11 when I went into NYC, all of them had their American flags proudly displayed. Good people; good cab drivers, lol. (Not as good as the Haitians, though!)
No sale
These guys don’t hate Americans.
I know. Being British, Sikhs are a major part of our culture and history, imperial and post imperial.
My reference to days of extremism was general. I didn’t say the Sikhs are.
There are a number of different types of turbans, and most people don’t recognize a Sikh turban, or know the difference between Sikhs, Jains, Hindus, Muslims, etc. I don’t claim special knowledge, but I live in an area full of educated people from all over the world, so there is an opportunity to get to know a lot of people who exemplify the best aspects of their faiths. People here do get along very well.
