This helps me explain the liberal agenda to serve the Progressive Movement in America.

“The reason some people accept the comfort of dependence is because they cannot accept the responsibility of being responsible. “

The reason most people accept the comfort of dependence is because it is much easier than the other choice.

Liberalism promotes selfishness, among other things.

The liberal agenda requires dependents to prop it up. The conservative agenda requires independents to prop it up. It's as simple as that.

The liberals need a nanny state to take care of their dependent constituency. The conservatives need to be rid of the nanny state to allow their constituents to take care of themselves.

Once those who want dependence become 50+% of the voting public, we are doomed. The 50+% will take the government over and we will either be their slaves or will have to accept a life of dependence.

Dependence on Government

I'm a little reticent to say this because it might be misconstrued, but maybe this "dependence" issue is rooted in the slavery era, both biologically and culturally.

After all, one desirable characteristic for a slave is docility and a need for dependence; so is it possible that descendants of former slaves could carry this tendency genetically?

Obviously, there are cultural reasons that this could be the case as well.

And, too, rage, hopelessness and lack of opportunity could contribute to aggression and criminal behavior in the young black male population, even as a tendency toward dependence on the state (as surrogate slavemaster) prevailed.

It makes me wonder how much of this phenomenon is cultural, and how much is biological, and whether the two can be distinguished effectively.

None of the above, of course, has any bearing on the Unalienable rights which all People possess by birthright. I just wonder if there's some kind of biological artifacts at play here which relate to at least some measure of selective breeding at some point in the past.

In any event, whether the causes are biological, cultural, or both, our slave-owning ancestors do indeed bear significant responsibility for the situation as it stands.

That is not to say that the sorry situation in which the black community finds itself was inevitable, or is excusable or inescapable.

I just wonder about such things when trying to understand behavior which is so alien to my own sensibilities regarding independence, industry, and self-reliance.

I myself have admittedly failed miserably at times on this front. But I do know it was wrong when it happened. Clearly, we should always try to minimize such behavior, and that's where I'm taken aback at others' profound ignorance of that general principle.

Having said all that, there can be little doubt that the corrosive and abominable philosophy of Marxism contributes greatly to this cultural malaise as well...

Spot on!

Parents and schools must teach the values of personal responsibility. It is parents’ job to prepare their children for life. Too many parents can’t figure that out or can’t be bothered.

The alternative is slavery. Once you put control of your well being in someone (or something) else you are a slave.

Progressives take advantage of that to control people and empower themselves.

Reminded me of Teddy Roosevelt on the Fall of the Republic

"The Roman Republic fell, not because of the ambition of Caesar or Augustus, but because it had already long ceased to be in any real sense a republic at all.

When the sturdy Roman plebeian, who lived by his own labor, who voted without reward according to his own convictions, and who with his fellows formed in war the terrible Roman legion, had been changed into an idle creature who craved nothing in life save the gratification of a thirst for vapid excitement, who was fed by the state, and who directly or indirectly sold his vote to the highest bidder, then the end of the Republic was at hand, and nothing could save it.

The laws were the same as they had been, but the people behind the laws had changed, and so the laws counted for nothing.”

Many think anyone not dependent on the government got there because the government is so helpful. They do not understand how anything is possible without a government handout.

Then we are doomed, because America blew past that threshold a while back.

Correct. And nobama is working very hard every day to make this happen.

The federal government spent $100 billion providing food assistance to Americans last year....

The left works on stirring up grievances designed to work off envy, greed and hate. Envy is where they want t tax the rich more even if it does not increase revenue...destroy the rich. Greed is where the government always wants more money from the productive class and they use the dependents as the reason to siphon off 75% for themselves. Hate is all the “war rhetoric” put out by the left like the war against women, police war on black youths and the 1% war on society.

Why not include gov’t workers? Most of them are just collecting a paycheck till their pension kicks in.

The govt workers push dependence because they siphon off 75% of the money they take to care for the dependents.

Let’ em keep destroying the rich and the middle claas till all the leftists get pink slips from the Dept of Health & Human Services saying there’s no funds to pay their food, housing, or healthcare. Its’s not going to be a very pretty day when they have no one left to rob. Can’t wait to see the gibsmedats rush the government buildings and start breaking out the glass windows to steal all their office equipment. The feds cand their professional organizers and fellow Commies caused this crap. Let ‘em get what they deserve...

The problem is that they are INSANE. They believe people will never let go of capitalism (Marx’s term) and free market (my term) until the system collapses and people are in such despair that they have no choice, but to grasp onto the new system (communism). They want to crash the system because they think they can create utopia from the rubble. They never think that they could be the first casualties in the collapse. But, I do.

I think you’re right. They have lived in a bubble culture so long without hardships that they truly believe anything can be accomplished by just thinking it so without having to put any if their own sweat equity. That’s what happens when children are coddled all their life and told that everyone is a winner no matter what (why even compete, right?) Unfortunately those in power saw a great opportunity to mindf$ck that segment of the population into voting for them using the Us v. Them mentality and got them to bite right into that apple by using class envy, PC, equality, “fairness”, etc... as the pretext. It worked. Now we have a bunch of he/she’s running around who will wet their panties if a true catastrophe like ISIS were to strike our soil who will run around talking about what they’re going to do in bunkers, scared to nuke ‘em for fear of hurting their widdle feelers. Hate to break to you sissies but hard times are comin’ and you’re not going to fare too well when the foot clans start lobbing your sorry a$$e$ off the top of buildings...
