Oregon is about to embark on a first-in-the-nation program that aims to charge car owners not for the fuel they use, but for the miles they drive. The program is meant to help the state raise more revenue to pay for road and bridge projects at a time when money generated from gasoline taxes are declining across the country, in part, because of greater fuel efficiency and the increasing popularity of fuel-efficient, hybrid and electric cars.
Starting July 1, up to 5,000 volunteers in Oregon can sign up to drive with devices that collect data on how much they have driven and where. The volunteers will agree to pay 1.5 cents for each mile traveled on public roads within Oregon, instead of the tax now added when filling up at the pump.

it’s what they want...more people out of work and dependent on the givt
REBEL. I will absolutely rebel against this, if it comes to my state, with armed civil disobedience if necessary. There is NO REASON for any government to have this data, except to take freedom.
They will make every effort to make it so miserable if you don’t pay that everyone will end up paying. Unless you literally want to live in the woods or leave the country, I think this will just become another annual norm that we pay in addition to car registration and property taxes and house insurance. It will just get added to the mountain of bills we already have.
Do they get a discount at the pump?
The first rule in bad legislation is to exempt yourself and your peers from said legislation.
Doesn’t anybody fight anything anymore? Do Americans just lay down, think of England, and let the socialists have their way with them?
Sigh. Looks that way.
I moved home to Oregon from Arizona in January, got my Oregon drivers license back, and was asked if I wanted to register to vote, which I declined. 2 months later they were automatically going to start registering everyone with a license. That pissed me off enough to move to Colorado. I haven’t gone in yet for my Colorado license and am curious as to whether I am an unwilling Republican or a Demo-Commie. The a-hole politicians in Oregon have really screwed up what was once a half-way decent state to reside in.
