17.5 million Shia Muslims made the holy Arbaeen pilgrimage to Karbala in 2014. More than three million Shiites marked the annual pilgrimage to Karbala amid tight security and attacks on the way to the holy city that killed dozens of people in 2006.
ISIS controls Ramadi, a city just 70 miles from Baghdad
Iranian backed Shia militias in Iraq are likely to fall back to protect sites secured during the height of the sectarian conflict. There are already reports they are doing just that.

Joe Biden was correct, for once.
Yup. He was.
May both Sunnis and Shiites win in their quest to prove that they represent the truest sect. Enterprising countries should be selling small arms to both sides.
What’s he say?
Actually we should have another look at electing him because we need the same solution in America. One country for libs, one for conservatives and one for people too stupid to decide which they like better.
And for the same reasons as Iraq actually. Libs are ALSO a bunch of animals devoted to a death god and want to control the world.
So much for Iraqi freedom. I remember the first Iraqi election, so proud of our troops and what they made happen. This is Obamas FU to GWB, pure and simple, so what if that ground is covered in American blood. I despise Obama the bastard.
That would be fine if obummer wasn’t bringing them here in droves and leaving the border porous
It does seem likw it's coming to that as the only solution..
ISIS and Iran are going to fight it out for the rest of the Obama Presidency.
The next President will not be so accommodating as Obama is.
The radical muslims will overplay their hand
The United States will do what it should have done after 9/11 but was too soft hearted to to do at the time
He’s leaving us all a little porous.
History never lies. See Bosnia for details. They thought it couldn’t happen there either.
ow there’s CHANGE we can HOPE for.
The head Governor guy came here months ago and begged the White House, the Military anybody in power to listen and help him in Anbar and the only person willing to listen was GWB which unfortunately meant little for Anbar. Losing Anbar is a big deal.
Team Shia vs Team Sunni
Oh, no... this is incorrect. According to White House and military reports today, we can take this BACK ANY TIME WE WANT TO!!!! Yeah, right....
Leave it to Commander "Putt-Putt"
His foreign policy may suck , but his golf game is improving !
Amen to that. I don’t get why the US should help any of them. Muslims fighting Muslims there. I don’t see a problem.
Unfortunately, I don't see that happening. Liberals have poisoned the Iraqi well so badly, that only the most secure politician would vote to send the forces over there in quantities large enough to get the job done. Bandaids will continue to be applied, but the bleeding will continue relatively unabated.
What can we say but Obama Akbar? At least that is what Democrats and the press are up for.
