California drought: Silicon Valley faces sweeping water cuts
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | May 19, 2015 | By Kurtis Alexander

Nearly 1 million Silicon Valley residents will face strict water quotas — and pricey surcharges for going over — under what will soon be the Bay Area’s most far-reaching rationing plan in four years of drought.

For most customers, who live in single-family homes and townhomes, the limit will be 70 percent of what the average household used in the same period in 2013, meaning an average 30 percent cutback.

The move comes as the state hands down mandatory reductions for California’s 400 biggest water agencies in response to Gov. Jerry Brown’s emergency drought declaration.

The rationing plan will not apply to apartment buildings, which don’t have individually metered units, nor most businesses. The company’s big irrigation customers, however, will be required to cut back water use by 30 percent over 2013 levels.

He’s an expert on beams from the moon. On matters of clouds precipitation and managing water and state funds-— not so much.

How about building some desalinization plants, Gubnor? Oh I see, can’t take money away from the train budget.

Do the math...$25-Billion for two holes under the Delta....

Now, take the Carlsbad desal plant.... The state could get 125 plants and deliver potable water for every last resident of California.

Well, really, only the residents in the first 50-100 miles from the coast need service and that would be a much smaller capital expenditure.

All of the Carlsbad replicates could be built simultaneously, but the Twin-Brown-Holes will take years and still depend upon rainfall.

Go figger.... Brown is a flaming idiot.

You are being kind in calling Brown a flaming idiot. In my opinion, he is a Class 1 A**hole.

We need desalination plants up and down the CA coast. But NOOOOO, Brown has to spend billions on a useless train. This drought situation has been coming on for years because California has a history of rainy and dry years. Just take a look at the annual rainfall over the past 100 years.

Now, Brown is acting like a dictator and forcing every water district in the state to conform to his mandate. The problem is that some water districts do not really have a water shortage while others are in dire straits. I wish that at least one of these districts would file suit against Brown.

Then we have the matter that agriculture consumes 80% of the water with industry at about 10% and residential use at 10%. So, a 35% reduction in residential use only equates to a 3.5% reduction. Plus, many homeowners have been conserving for the past 3 years or so, and now they are being told they need to reduce consumption by 35% above what they have been using those same years. What madness.

Between Brown and the legislature which is totally under control of the Democrats, there is no hope for this state.

Today, the LA city council voted to implement a $15 minimum wage. Go ahead. When hundreds of businesses leave town, you jerks will be stuck with having to support the world’s largest illegal immigrant and welfare population.

Solar desalinization should have been on their list.

Lesson learned: use more water in wet years.
