LOS ANGELES — The nation’s second-largest city voted on Tuesday to increase its minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2020 from the current $9 an hour, in what is perhaps the most significant victory so far in the national push to raise the minimum wage.

The increase — which the Los Angeles City Council passed in a 14-1 vote — comes as workers across the country are rallying for higher wages.

The impact is likely to be particularly strong in Los Angeles, where, according to some estimates, more than 40 percent of the city’s work force earns less than $15 an hour.

Cool! They just made work worth less than a $15/hour wage illegal within LA. That should really help low skilled labor! /sarcasm off.

Hey, I’m willing to have the cost passed on to me as a consumer. NOT.

And those burger making machines and automatic cashiers are looking prettier and prettier to fast food owners.

“The Right Minimum Wage: $0.00”
http://www.nytimes.com/1987/01/14/opinion/the-right-minimum-wage-0.00.html
Ironic that The New York Slime which once had an opinion on keeping the government out of this, now reports on the push for higher and higher “minimum” wages.

Liberals believe it’s better to have no job at 15 bucks an hour than have have a job at 9 bucks and hour.

It's good to see LA taking the lead.

In a few years, LA will be an object example of what happens when you ignore basic economics, and especially law of supply and demand.

The unemployment rate will soar, and people will start working off-the-books at a lower rate, just so they can put food on the table.

LA just whitened itself up... liberals finally figured how to do it with no backlash.

From the article: “The impact is likely to be particularly strong in Los Angeles, where, according to some estimates, more than 40 percent of the city’s work force earns less than $15 an hour.”

More than 40%? Are they counting the underground economy or just the “official” one?

This will simply make illegals who work off the books and below minimum wage in even higher demand.

Why wait until 2020? I mean if it’s such a good plan?

The 20th and 21st Centuries have seen a number of truly evil women rising to the forefront from Margaret Sanger to Moochelle Hussein Obama. Perhaps not as well known was the communist who played a key role during corrupt reign of Franklin Diablo Roosevelt, France Perkins, pictured below as she and FDR set forth plans to shred the Constitution.

The fascist Perkins was the motivation force behind such reprehensible, liberty-denying programs as Social Security, protection of Big Labor thugs and the minimum wage.

Don’t hold back Cali...make it $1000 per hour. That would be “fair”.

They’re driving the poor out. Neighboring states should close down every interstate bus terminal now.

What process was used to determine $15 / hour was appropriate for minimum wage? Was some actuarial formula used to determine this number? Or is it just another typical liberal “We feel like it should be $15 / hour therefore that’s what we want”

Nevermind. Answered my own question there.

See, there’s no need for a fedreal minimum wage.

If states or local communities want to commit economic suicide, who cares?
