Removal of Confederate flags from cemetery sparks controversy [Alabama]
Fox Carolina ^ | May 16, 2015 | Lindsey Rogers

A prominent attorney admits to taking flags from the graves of soldiers, a move that's sparked both positive reaction and calls for him to be arrested and disbarred. He's also received death threats and hate mail.

The lawyer says his actions are meant to promote unity.

A bag of small Confederate flags sits at Union Springs City Hall. They were removed from graves at an old Confederate cemetery downtown, behind the Red Door Theater, near the intersection of Highway 82 and North Prairie Street.

Myron Penn pulled up the flags with his family on Mother's Day. Penn, a founding partner at Penn & Seaborn Attorneys at Law in Union Springs, who served as state senator for two terms and as chairman of the Bullock County Commission, says he did it for his 4-year-old son.

“The reason why we picked them up is because the image of the flags in our community, a lot of people feel that they're a symbol of divisiveness and oppression of many people in our community,” Penn said. “Especially with the history that that flag and the connotation and negativism that it brings. I would think that no one in our community would have a problem with this or with my actions at all.”

Texas has had 6 flags fly over it. I am proud of our heritage and I love all of them.
I have had ancestors here under all but the first two.

Unfortunately, some on FR do support the MargaretSanger-Malthusian-Guttmacher approach to immigration and population control in non-abortion situations.

Those holding such views ought to be working for the far-left abortion mill, Planned Parenthood and ought not be on Mr. Robinson's pro-God, pro-life site for Conservatives. Sanger sided with the Ku Klux Klan and thus was a liberal, anti-American 'RAT.

Blacks cant comprehend white society or the morales. M. Sanger had that right. A people devoid of leadership qualities.

Not only was the post offensive on many levels, I’m still trying to figure out what “morales” is/are. Is that something that only “white” Hispanics like George Zimmerman have?

Yes, and both are Confederate flags. The Cross of St. Andrews flag was a battle flag.

Next they will ban the US flag because it offends illegals. This symbolism nonsense has to end—what next? Cut out the Civil war from the History Books or rename it the Slavery War? Sell off all the Civil War Battlefield Parks to developers, Ban any new movies of the Civil War? Ban Gone With the Wind? Maybe the southern states need to be renamed.

This ‘smart’ person doesn’t know that blacks owned slaves AND THEY WERE IN THE BUSINESS OF SLAVE TRADING IN AFRICA!!!

Thousands of blacks were slave owners. There were even black breeders - they breeded and sold fellow blacks into slavery. The first man to petition the court to have his indentured servant changed into a slave was black

I’m partial to the Betsey Ross and the CSA Flag because the Betsey Ross is what the CSA was fighting for.

There is a huge difference between todays Democrats and the Dixiecrats (Democrats) of yore. Read your history

“With malice toward none, with charity for all, ...let us strive on to finish the work we are in, ...to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations.
Abraham Lincoln, Second Inaugural Address, Mar. 4, 1865

That is the spirit of unity.”

Unfortunately, the “malice” surged exponentially after the War of Northen Aggression and “charity” was left in the dust of invading carpetbaggers.

That’s why Southerners cherish their heritage and will always do so.

There's no difference between differently named types of 'RATs. It's exceedingly simple and quite logical: A 'RAT is 'RAT by any name prefixing it.

Unfortunately Lincoln chose a Democrat as his vice president in an attempt at unity. After Lincoln was shot, Johnson was a disaster.

Lincoln ran as the ‘National Union’ party candidate in 1864, not technically as a Republican.

“After Lincoln was sot, Johnson was a disaster.”

One hundred years later, another vice-president named Johnson who also became president as a result of an assassination was an even bigger disaster. Ironic.

Dixiecrats didn’t come around until 1948. Please tell us the difference between the democrats of Civil War yore and the common day variety.

Wonder what he’d do if they were Confederate National flags (the “Bonny Blue Flag” rather than Confederate Battle Flags)?
