Out behind the courthouse with this bully.
I think the focus was more toward proving up any damages in a suit against the school. There is no doubt 1st Amendment was here, and which the judge dismissed the case. But proving damages...a stretch. However, I do wish there was some way to take some hide from the principal on this, rather than simple embarrassment.
One thing I agreed with slick willy about. Same shirt and pants for all kids in school like I had to wear in my parochial school (navy blue pants/light blue shirt/navy blue tie/shined leather shoes)
I wear progun shirts and hats and I’m 66. But I don’t want my kids arguing with some leftist clown who wears a pro choice or anti gun t-shirt. School should be to learn the 3Rs. Of course what passes for history is problematic these days and a sharp eye must be kept on the ‘educators’ to make sure they’re not proselytizing their Marxism. I believe schools have to be some sort of mild dictatorship and after school is plenty of time to express you views.
No way the kid should have been arrested.
If he were wearing a pro-gay rights shirt, they’d want the principles’ head on a platter.
This is why lawyers should be sued for malpractice if they lose a case. Use the same standard they use for the medical profession, if the case goes bad sue the lawyer because he wasn’t good enough to win the case. This lawyer used intimidation and should suffer because he couldn’t make a case based upon real reasoning.
Perhaps this was the best possible outcome. No serious damage done, but the issue was publicized.
I’m not in favor of constant lawsuits over trivialities, but since the left uses the courts to bully, it’s about time the conservatives level the playing field.
No, I don’t think free speech is at all trivial, but I do recognize that there can be reasonable restrictions in a school. I personally see nothing wrong with the shirt, but I understand why some might consider it inappropriate. Maybe the embarrassment was enough “hide” taken from the principal. I’d like to see some hide taken from the idiotic lawyer. (And btw, for someone who criticized the kid’s hair (entirely uncalled for), he was a wad of nervous mannerisms. Watch him squirm and readjust himself. There was something else going on there.)
Would be neat if the NRA started selling 2-sided tee shirts, with an even more inflamatory message on the inside...
Good points.
I also agree that schools should focus on learning and avoid distractions like this. The “but” is that kids are being fed so much propaganda in the government schools (as well as most private schools) that we have to keep an eye on what sort of speech and ideas they are allowing and promoting vs. what they are preventing.
Best option: Homeschool.
2d best option when that’s not a workable choice: Keep a close eye on what they are teaching your kids and talk with them in order to counter the left wing propaganda.
How about a shirt with these words: My Gay friends all love my gun”?
Good way to get rid of half the lawyers in every trial.
Then half of the remainder at the next go around, and the next, and the next.
After a few cycles the lawyer population would be cut down to a reasonable size.
You are arguing from the point of reason, and I agree that from this point of view, there are no damages.
However, damages do exist as a means to prevent this behavior on the part of the school in the future. Such damages are *regularly* given when students are “offended” by other students praying, for example. And such damages are a major fundraising gimmick used by the ACLU, after congress gave them the right to collect egregious lawyers fees from suing schools for very minor reasons.
If the lawsuit against this district did result in even minor damages, say just $10,000, the district would probably fire the principal, and it would serve as a major warning to other school administrations even beyond that district, to not oppress students inoffensively exercising their constitutional rights.
“Queers for Guns”
Fairy nice! ;^}
Isn’t Obamaland great?
Now why don’t you shut your bigoted face and go pay your taxes? Your hard working government is broke. :)
The lawyer’s obviously a dick and doesn’t care who knows it.
what a doofus, he is all excited because he has all those hot women surrounding him
“How about a shirt with these words: My Gay friends all love my gun?
There is a gay 2nd Amendment group, the Pink Pistols. I wonder if they sell shirts.
That was my choice. My 3 boys are grown now. All went to public school. All were also ‘home schooled’ in part to be trained in the fine art of recognizing propaganda. All are now grown, college educated CONSERVATIVES.
Is that a Coed group?
If only female, is theirs’ called a gun? ;^}
