On Tuesday, Pew Research released a new study finding a radical increase in the number of religiously unaffiliated Americans. That increase correlated strongly with the decrease in the number of Catholics, mainline Protestants, and evangelical Protestants over the past seven years.

Here is some info on clergy response teams. Basically these are pastors that are towing the government line and encouraging their flock to obey the government especially during a crisis. Often they rely on Romans 13 to justify obeying any government under most circumstances. Well, Paul was jailed so he obviously disobeyed Roman authorities for a good reason.

As far as my more general statement, it is my impression that organized religion has been more willing to accept sinful behavior- just look at the debate with regards to homosexual marriage for example and the revised positions of the Anglican Church, PCUSA etc.
Prophecy
In my teens I gave it all up when the preacher kept on asking for money for Biafra. This went on for a year or so then one day he said we had raised enough money to buy a jet so the bishop could travel to Biafra. I was outta there and never looked back.
I'm sure the pew poll would consider me to be a "none of the above. Wrong!! I still live by the principles and values of a christian upbringing. I haven't attended an organized church since except for a visit to the chapel while in basic training. We could have a smoke break there long before we earned one from the DI.
Thank-you for your response! God Bless!
IOW the left wing media has “redefined” being religious.
IE if you did not go to church four times in a row you are no longer religious.
FTA: People are attracted to behavioral requirements, as secularists well know; thats why secularists require religious Americans to serve same-sex weddings, require obeisance to ascientific nonsense about the malleability of biological gender, and celebrate abortion like a sacrament. Even atheists and agnostics have a god that requires something of them. Typically, that god is an inflated sense of self-worth spawning both a self-generated morality and an unearned sense of moral superiority.
The author is right. Every secularist, which includes almost all Leftists, has their own private religion in which, ultimately, they are their own god.
Abandoned "religion"? I'm sorry to hear that but your reasoning does not appear to be sound. You abandon your personal faith because of how others treated you?
