Some Wisconsin protesters arrested amid demand for role in probes

Hundreds of people protested Wednesday in Wisconsin's capital and more than two dozen were arrested for blocking a road a day after a prosecutor ruled that a Madison police officer's fatal shooting of an unarmed biracial teenager was justified.

Brandi Grayson, co-founder of the Young Gifted and Black Coalition that organized the protest, said the group wanted community control over the hiring and firing of officers and a U.N. probe into racial disparities in Dane County and Wisconsin.

"We don't have time-set goals. We understand the struggle for black liberation will be generational," Grayson said.

Lakaya Horton, 13, of Madison, got permission to go to the protest with her mother and a friend instead of school.

"No matter who you are, you should be charged for killing a person," Horton said, adding: "He should at least get a little bit of time."

Nearly all those arrested were being cited for obstructing the roadway and then released, Madison Police spokesman Joel DeSpain said, describing their acts as peaceful civil disobedience.

Brandi Grayson, co-founder of the Young Gifted and Black Coalition...

Not that young, not that gifted, and not so much a coalition as a misled bunch of rabble-rousers.

AMEN to that. I was thinking the same. They would do something with their lives if they are so gifted instead of being rebel rousers.

This is the scummy little jerk wad that was wasted on drugs and attacking people with a hammer. Including the cops that showed up to stop his rampage. Guess what asshole. If someone attacks me with a hammer I'd shoot them to. Hammer equals deadly weapon you flapping pecker.

Unarmed as in Trayvon, if the synopsis is right. Clobbered the cop several times.

Shame on the press for pumping mere sensation. They don’t care if home burns, as long as they get eyeballs and earballs.

Odd. Many blacks don’t seem to think so.

Thanks Patriot Babe.

The name of the group reflects a certain inferiority complex IMO.

It seeks to instill the public with the idea that Black youth have gifted people in their ranks.

I accepted that premise long before I heard of this group. The group’s founder evidently was unable to grasp folks could.

If a hammer, what the blue yonder are they calling unarmed... will this press ever find truth again?

This does sound a lot like a situation needing a taser, but again some drugs can make a taser powerless.

I agree with you on this. He was unarmed, but pounding Zimmerman’s head into the cement. Somehow that isn’t seen as life-threatening.

If a person’s life is threatened, it would seem reasoned they could put an end to the threat.

The press should have at least raised this premise. It failed and merely fanned the flames.

Very irresponsible...

Downright EVIL, actually.

It’s possible to hope that situations like this can be handled in the future with less loss of life. Do all officers even have tasers. The violent drug tripper is more and more common today. There could be ways. But they don’t grow on trees, someone has to pay for the special provisions.

But who is the white dude with the megaphone in the photo, Craig Spaulding? Thought this was a black affair?

I smell a red in a hoodie. Anyone know who he is?

Downright EVIL, actually.

I agree.

It’s possible to hope that situations like this can be handled in the future with less loss of life. Do all officers even have tasers. The violent drug tripper is more and more common today. There could be ways. But they don’t grow on trees, someone has to pay for the special provisions.

More and more onus is placed on the officers, while just about everything is explained away for the perp. In the Trayvon Martin instance, I believe this is rather clear.

Each new measure required to prove officers use more restraint places more burden on the departments, and less on the perp.

Trayvon uses physical means to threaten Zimmerman's life, and Zimmerman is depicted as the culprit. If Zimmerman had been biased, all Martin had to do is comply with his inquiry to defuse the situation. "My dad lives right there. I'm just returning home." That was the easy way to defuse this situation. Martin gets a pass, because he was half Black, against security man half Hispanic.

Martin had a chip on his shoulder. He wasn't going to allow some near White looking guy challenge him. He refused to be civil. He then escalated the problem to trying to beat the security officer to death.

The media played into this all the way. So yes, I agree "EVIL" is accurate. I also think "Incitement" is a valid charge against media outlets.

The Left wanted another cause celeb. They manipulated to achieve it. The result was riots, the knock out game, and a season of racial strife that wasn't warranted at all. Many people died. Destruction was widespread.

As department's costs go up for mace, tasers, body cameras and other measures, the media plays down the reasoned expectations of criminals, and play up the unreasoned demands on the officers.

It was clear rather quickly that Martin didn't have justification to kill Zimmerman. What is a camera going to add to that reality And yet, that's the demand.

I'd venture to guess we're talking about 10s of millions of more dollars added to police department's budgets, in the interest of making them obey the rules, while the perps continue to do as they damn well please.

Hey, how about just informing perps to obey officer's demand and avoid the problems? Duh!

It's something like forcing good citizens to jump hoops to own a gun, when the evil in society can get them without jumping through hoops.

I can see a reason to suggest the cameras, but I'll bet more loopholes are found to get the guilty off because of some technicality that officers in a life threatening situation accidentally contributed to the event, not out of evil intent.

Ah, more free passes. Just what we need.

‘Young Gifted and Black Coalition’

This filth has been in our town for weeks on end, now. If they come to your town, get out the RAID and spray liberally!

Of course this is, ‘The People’s Republik of Madistan’ and they welcome these agitators with OPEN arms, but so far, aside from a few protests, they’re really not gaining any traction - I mean, the city isn’t burning. Yet.

Their open letter/list of DEMANDS to our police department:

http://www.wisconsingazette.com/wisconsin/young-gifted-and-black-coalition-open-letter-to-madison-police-chief-michael-koval.html

“The relationship that we desire to have with the police is simple: no interaction.”

“One of our publicly-stated demands is for the immediate release of 350 Black people from the Dane County Jail, with the ongoing demand to keep this number out of the jail in order to remove 350 beds from the facility.”

“We want to see a plan for how the Madison Police Department is going to do the following to address racial disparities:

Dramatically reduce the number of police contacts with Black people and poor people.

Significantly increase voluntary referrals to community-led resources and programs when police do contact Black people and poor people.

Cut in half the number of Black people and poor people arrested to address racial disparities...”
