Shouldn’t take too long to calculate speed from the video. Wreckage seems to indicate that the loco went loose first and the first passenger car wrapped itself around a ibeam pole holding up the wires.

The loco cab did’t hit too much so I’d guess that the engineer survived.

“Is it me, or does the headline seem to imply two separate trains?”

My first thought too.

I think the DC to NYC corrydoor makes some semblence of breaking even on cash flow.

haste makes waste...and Im pretty sure that the headline writer wrote that masterpiece... in a mad dash...

As a former Philadelphian, that headline makes the meaning perfectly clear (it is from a local television news website). SEPTA is Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority - buses, trolley cars, commuter trains, subways and elevated lines.

I concur. I’d add suposition that the loco is all electric and perhaps more likely to have trouble sticking to the track than a Diesel-lectric.

“I concur. I’d add suposition that the loco is all electric and perhaps more likely to have trouble sticking to the track than a Diesel-lectric.”

The entire North East Corridor is electric from D.C. to Boston.

Nothing sticks to the track at twice the rated speed.

The engines are generally all-electric on NE corridor, as the lines are electrified from DC to New Haven. Also why a train (and then several) was stranded a while back because apparently they refuse to have diesels at the ready to take over. Catenary down? Out of luck.

And no question this loco was standard electric Amtrak - I saw the pix finally and it definitely is, being familiar with them.
