The engines are generally all-electric on NE corridor, as the lines are electrified from DC to New Haven. Also why a train (and then several) was stranded a while back because apparently they refuse to have diesels at the ready to take over. Catenary down? Out of luck.

And no question this loco was standard electric Amtrak - I saw the pix finally and it definitely is, being familiar with them.

Specs indicated 8600 peak HP which would tend to indicate a heavy gvw to get the traction. No Diesel would make it lighter but could also get to a lower CoG. I was surprised that the locos went scooting through downtown Lac Magentic while the tankers didn't.

The radio sounds like the currrent theory is excessive speed so cornering capability of the loco design compared to other designs would be of interest..
