As we await more information on the train derailment in Philadelphia on Tuesday night it should be noted that the FBI put out several warnings since 9-11 on possible sabotage of US trains.The FBI warned of stolen “derailers” after the 9-11 attacks. This warning was first published in 2003. ABC News reported:
Devices that could be used by terrorists to derail trains are being stolen from rail facilities around the country, the FBI warned today.
Nine derailers, a piece of railroad equipment used to derail train cars for safety purposes in railyards have been stolen recently, sources said, citing the FBI’s weekly intelligence bulletin.
The theft of these items is strange since they are of little use outside of the rail industry, according to the bulletin.

Whenever I hear of an event like this with civilian casualties, I automatically think muslim terror attack, and won’t be convinced otherwise until I hear evidence to the contrary.

If this was the work of terrorists... we most likely will not ever hear about it unless the terrorists claim responsibility. “Peaceful” Muslims are quickly becoming the media’s current most favored victim class.

They are going to have to start embedding electronic tracking devices in derailers.
I dont see how theres not been more attention paid to there possible misuse!
That derailer is pretty much useless if a locomotive or car are going over 10mph or so. I’ve seen that style with a streak of that yellow paint missing, due to the wheel flange running right over the top of it.
As a matter of fact, the railroad that I work for has started to phase out that style of derailer, and replacing them with a more reliable design.
I just did a google search on “derailer”. I always like a pic with a story.
