May 11, 2015 NFL Suspends Tom Brady, Punishes Patriots For "Deflategate"

The NFL announced Monday that it was suspending New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady for his role in a scheme to deflate footballs used in last season's AFC championship game, a controversy that came to be known as "Deflategate."

In a statement released Monday afternoon, the league said the Super Bowl MVP "will be suspended without pay for the first four games of the 2015 regular season for conduct detrimental to the integrity of the NFL."

The league also fined the Patriots $1 million and took away two draft picks, including next years' first-round choice, "for the violation of the playing rules and the failure to cooperate in the subsequent investigation."

In addition, the NFL indefinitely suspended the two Patriots equipment staffers who carried out the plan, including one who called himself "The Deflator."

The punishment was imposed five days after a 243-page report prepared by league-appointed investigator Ted Wells said Brady "was at least generally aware" of plans by the team employees to prepare the balls to his liking, below the league-mandated minimum of 12.5 pounds per square inch.

The Patriots should pull a “Market Basket” and all hold out until he is reinstated. The league would lose millions and beg Brady to come back.

And Goodell needs to go ASAP. He has the look of a cuckold.

Luckily the referees never see the game balls or they would’ve caught this. Wait...what...

never been a Brady fan but the balls they are referring to were used in the first half only of that AFC game....then removed....the Pats didn't start really winning until the supposed "inflated" balls were removed....

I hate the politically correct NFL and I hope that lawyer sues their arse and exposes the corruption.....

I've been a MA resident my whole life. I'm not much of a sports fan, but the only sport I ever watch is NFL football when the Patriots are doing well.

And I don't care very much one way or the other about this incident.

One thing I would say is that we seem to increasingly live in a world where the rules are whatever the powerful people want them to be. The rule book says: tamper with a football, face a $25,000 file.

What do we see? The Commissioner doing whatever he likes to stomp on the Patriots.

It's not about the Patriots.
It's not about Brady.
It's not about guilt or innocence.

It's about how all the rules, all the laws and all the sections of the Constitution just don't matter anymore. It's a free-for-all in America. The Powerful people do whatever they like. You can see Brady as an example of that, if you like. You can see the commissioner as an example, if you like. There are no rules for the Big Folk.

That's the only part of this I'm paying attention to.

Now this I really like:

“I like some of the posts on a Boston website -
If you suspend one, then you suspend all. Win as a team, lose as a team.
Don’t even take the field during the Brady suspension games - If Robert Kraft has the stones, refund the home game suspensions, and concede the victory to the other team.
Patriots will then go 12-4.”

a. Yes, I believe it happened in the ‘30s.
b. The score would be 2-0.

Would the NFL let it happen? How can they stop it? Field a scab team?

BTW, Ted Wells is a big time RAT:

Brady not going to the WH makes sense now. This bulls**t punishment also makes sense now.

suspension and fine because he “probably” knew the balls were deflated. How can this hold water in the courts?? I hope he fights it.

An experienced college quarterback and EVERY PROFESSIONAL quarterback can tell you if the ball is properly inflated.

Brady liked the feel of a ball slightly underinflated...they are softer and easier to grip but the underinflation is illegal.

THERE IS NO WAY THAT WHEN HE PICKED UP THOSE GAME BALLS...HE DID NOT KNOW THAT THEY WERE properly inflated for him.

Hey bud,
He should have gotten nothing. This was all a set up as they would have won any way. It is actually pay back for not attending the White House love fest of Obama. I am a little disappointed in people bashing this good Republican. We have very few in the sports and entertainment arena. And as soon as one is questioned, we throw the conservative under the bus. Not cool.

He’ll accept it knowing he was damn lucky not to get a full season suspension.

Oh my God...are you serious? If I was Brady, I’d tell them to take away the punishment or I quit forever. That would be a tragedy for football and it would take a long time for the Patriots to ever get another win. NFL better tread carefully on this when the appeal comes through. Brady doesn’t need football, football needs Brady.
