University of Northern Colorado Reinstates Mexican-American Studies After Protests

The University of Northern Colorado faced a strong and immediate backlash when it decided to suspend its Mexican-American studies program back in March.

As the Greenley Tribune reported, the choice to drop the program was, according to administrators, based on low enrollment numbers, as this year only two students were going after a Mexican-American studies degree.

As a result of protests from students, alumni and community members, the University of Northern Colorado lifted the suspension on Friday.

Nereida Sorrano, a UNC alumnus who graduated with a minor in Mexican-American Studies, spoke about how excited she was to hear of the program being reinstated, saying that she actually didn't expect the news but was really happy that the hard work of all demonstrators involved paid off.

The pic says it all.

Long past the time we return the favor...and the ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS back to the loser country they came crom.

What a worthless degree.

With in-state tuition, no doubt.

With money borrowed from us that’ll never be repayed.

Because their degrees are worth as much as a 100,000 mile Yugo.

War is coming.

How do you stuff the 15 minute “Battle of Puebla” into a semester? Geez. Just give the idiots a diploma once they pay their tuition and call that good.

Well, a program with only two students in it.. is not going to matter much either way... so may as well keep it ...

my big beef is not “Meican American studies”... it is well that everyone gets a chance to learn something about humanities in all its various flavors

my big beef is
1. the extreme politicization that often occurs within such ‘ethic studies’ departments (always towards the communist Marxist reading of history and society)
and
2. the failure of most or all ‘humanities’ programs at most universities to clearly disclose the career opportunities such degrees lead to (that being, next-to-nil). This just being honest with the students, is all. Tell it like it is, almost nobody is going to pay you a whole lot because you can recite some obscure ethnic patriot from the 1700’s

most “humanities’ degrees are for those who are independently wealthy...or who make sure they ALSO obtain marketable job qualifications (accountancy, engineering, nursing, auto mechanics, plumbing, computer programming, you know the list

oh yes, a footnote... i know at least one public college where the ‘black studies’ professors put out the word that they were granting ALL A’s.......thus attracting enrollments from other departments and programs.....
the problem being the obvious....its a fraud on the students.....even while the enjoy their A’s..... its still a fraud on them..............and they graduate with credentials that even McDonald’s doesn’t have any use for...
so they graduate to lives on welfare, on the dole.

as i said, a fraud on the students

I’ve been looking at colleges in Mexico. I can’t seem to find American Mexican courses. They must be racist.

That’s because schools in other parts of the world are NOT crippled by political correctness....at least to the extent that they are in the US, UK and the West....
