Could have been the usual exaggeration by anti gun media reporting the story.
Or, maybe the liberal anti gunner used a gun they want banned, a sport utility rifle with a bigger than 10 round magazine.

Was he drunk, as well [for the trifecta]?Well, according to The Detroit News story, "Cop report: Naked Smith fought ex-wife before shooting," it sounds like he was in bed with his girlfriend when Smith's ex-wife showed up and went all 'Michelle-O' on him, before he chased her off with the shotgun.
Her story is that he had invited her to stay overnight at his house and when she arrived, she was met by a naked Smith and his girlfriend. When she objected [to the threesome?!?] the fight started.
You can't make this stuff up. ;-)
