DETROIT -

Police searched a state senator's home Sunday after he was accused of firing a shotgun following a fight with his girlfriend.

Sources told Local 4 state Sen. Virgil Smith, who represents the fourth district, fired several shots into the woman's car.

Investigators walked out of state Smith's home with what appeared to be a shotgun wrapped in a garbage bag. Investigators with Detroit police placed it in the backseat of an unmarked car.

Around 1 a.m. Sunday police were called to Smith's home for reports of shots fired

Sources told Local 4 that early Sunday morning Smith and his girlfriend, a prominent businesswoman from Ann Arbor, got into an argument. Police said the victim told them multiple shots were fired in front of the home at Wexford and Hilldale, on the east side.

Sources said the woman was not injured, but that her 2015 Mercedes Benz was struck by gunfire.

Neighbors said they have mixed feelings on allegations against Smith of domestic violence.

Local 4 reached out to Smith's girlfriend but she did not return any calls.

The mayor's office is also not commenting on the investigation.

Smith has not been charged. At this point, police won't confirm if he was even questioned or taken into custody.

Seems like most Democrats are anti gun is because they can’t trust themselves with them let alone others.

Yep...you can take some people out of Detroit, but you can’t take Detroit out of some people.

That's exactly the way I've felt about it for a long time. If I recall correctly, this clown threw a tantrum about open carry in the state capitol building a few years back.

Not unusual if there is no further threat (especially if the suspect is a politician)

This winter a guy in Hillsdale killed his son in law and wasn’t arrested. They took his guns for the duration of the investigation but they ended up not charging him.

I think maybe we need to cut Senator Virgil Smith a little slack here.
Since this story is out of Detroit, maybe he was just trying to emphasize that his girl friend should have bought an American made automobile instead of that 2015 Mercedes Benz. He was really just trying to assassinate the Mercedes
See? In reality he was really protecting American workers and the American Automobile industry, in the home of the American automobile industry.

Could be. maybe.

If he needs a replacement gun due to evidence seizure, there’s another Democrat senator that can get him a replacement:

if he needs to learn how to attempt to carry it on a commercial flight, there’s another Democrat senator who can teach him how:

Hear that.

Amusing though that for a great statesman like the Senator they won’t even confirm that he has been spoken to.

Funny too that the neighbors are of “mixed feelings” about domestic violence allegations.

Nothing very mixed about the big holes in that new Mercedes.

A few years back the head of some advocacy group against domestic violence in Michigan was arrested for assaulting her husband.
