ts a Guggen-crime.
The Upper East Side museum banned a Brooklyn high school for life after its students were deemed too rowdy on a recent visit a move that some call discipline and others discrimination.
A group of about 80 kids from Downtown Brooklyns Science Skills Center HS were kicked out after just 20 minutes after a student allegedly spat off the museums swirling rotunda lobby and another threw a penny off its winding walkway. The coin was rumored to have hit a security guard.
It was only a handful of troublemakers, but the whole group of ninth- and 10-graders got the boot, with the museum forcing them to wait outside for an hour for their bus to arrive.
Many never got to glimpse the gallerys Picassos, van Goghs and Monets or even finish checking out the main display by Japanese artist On Kawara...
...Shortly afterward, the school was told it was not welcome back.
Just last week, First Lady Michelle Obama pleaded for art institutions to be more welcoming of kids from all backgrounds.
You see, there are so many kids in this country who look at places like museums and concert halls and other cultural centers and they think to themselves, Well, thats not a place for me, for someone who looks like me, for someone who comes from my neighborhood, she said, speaking at the opening of the new Whitney Museum in the Meatpacking District.
Guggenheim rules state that people should speak quietly, not run and not disturb other visitors. However, gallery visitors complained about the students obnoxious behavior, with one angrily requesting a refund because of the troublesome teens.

And burn stuff.
Also sounds like a movie theatre popular with ‘them’
What a freakin coincidence that she was talking about this. This must have been a setup.
That's what I was thinking.
Expect more incidents and an anti-museum push in the near future.
I went to the Baseball Hall of Fame this past Columbus Day, and there was a group of Black school kids there, from NYC. They were attempting to engage in rowdiness, but every time they reached a certain level, one of the chaperones would crack down on them, but quick. The result was that these kids got to enjoy a great experience, and everyone else got to see that excuses for ethnic shenanigans are just that - excuses. I approached one of the leaders, as I was leaving, and told him he was doing The Lord’s work. His complexion was too dark to tell, but I could have sworn that he was blushing, as I walked away ;)
My thought as well. Clearly those rules are culturally insensitive and don’t take into account diversity & different societal norms.
That is racist. Change the rules to say speak loudly, run around and disturb others.
Yeah, and allow any one to spit off any balcony they want!
They should also be allowed to pee anywhere and take a dump if they feel to urge!.
When I a was schoolkid many moons ago one summer a local movie theater in my hometown gave away free tickets to all schoolkids 12 and under for matinees. I remember a movie house packed with hundreds of screaming, out of control, all-white kids creating general mayhem and unbelievable noise. The theater manager came out and threatened to turn the audio off the movie if the kids didn't settle down. All to no avail. So he shut the audio down for forty minutes. Still didn't quiet the kids.
That was the last summer for free movies for kids. It wasn't just a few nuts...it was a lot of kids. And they ruined it for the quiet kids like me. Moral of the story: all kids need to be sat on...with switches if necessary.
We're talking about middle schoolers here, right? I don't care if the kids have been there before or not, if they don't know how to properly behave in public at that age they have no business being there.
That being said I believe a lifetime ban is excessive, though I can recall hearing about whole classes in my area being sent home from field trips for poor behaviour when I was in school and it had nothing to do with them being any color but stupid.
If you want to, "change our history, change our traditions," taking over the museum system in the name of, "social justice," would be a good way to do it.
Or, maybe after Michelle’s statements, the kids felt entitled to impose their will on the museum.
It is racis to not allow the looters their space so they may destroy.
So black children are exempt from basic rules of civilized behavior? Got it.
That Guggenheim ramp is tailor-made for rolling pennies.
“...instead of considering that maybe the students havent been there before.”
I’m sure that any students from this school who haven’t visited the museum are free to purchase a ticket and visit on an individual basis any time they please. Are they so feckless and trifling that they can’t get there under their own steam and on their own dime?
Probably just as well... that art wouldn't look too good covered in graffiti.
I LOVE IT! Smack dab right in the middle of LIBTARDTOWN, Manhattan NY. Bite it!
I’m betting there are videos that will show up on youtube. Eventually we will see what the yutes were up to.
They be po folk, held down and poor by Whitey! If they can't behave appropriately in a museum with very expensive exhibits they don't belong until they can, no matter if it's a public school paying or themselves. The excuses given by some museum workers is laughable, animals belong in a zoo, people, go to museums.
Big Brother is watching, but so is everyone else. :)
