Communist Defector Says KGB Created "Liberation Theology"
New American ^ | 5/8/15 | Jack Kenny

A high-ranking communist official who defected to the United States in the 1970s now says the Soviet KGB was behind the tidal wave of “liberation theology” that swept through Catholic countries in Latin America before the opposition of Pope John Paul II effectively ended the movement.

Ion Mihai Pacepa, a former three-star general in Romania's Securitate, or secret police, said he first learned of liberation theology during meetings with Nikita Khrushchev and General Aleksandr Sakharovsky, then chief director of the KGB, when Sakharovsky accompanied the Soviet premier on a six-day visit to Romania in October of 1959.

“Khrushchev wanted to go down in history as the Soviet leader who had exported communism to Central and South America,” Pacepa said in a May 1 interview with the Catholic News Agency. “Romania was the only Latin country in the Soviet bloc, and Khrushchev wanted to enroll her ‘Latin leaders’ in his new ‘liberation’ war.”

Sakharovsky was little known to the world at large during the “hot years” of the Cold War, when secrecy was so highly valued that not all the members of the British and Israeli governments knew the heads of their own intelligence agencies, Pacepa said. But Sakharovsky played a key role in the East-West conflict as an architect of the export of communism to Cuba, the Berlin crisis and the building of the infamous wall, and the Cuban missile crisis that brought the world to the brink of nuclear war, Pacepa said.

Liberation theology “was born in the KGB, and it had a KGB-invented name," the former general said. During those years, the KGB had a penchant for “liberation” movements, he noted, citing as examples the “National Liberation Army of Columbia created by the KGB with help from Fidel Castro; the National Liberation Army of Bolivia,

Priests: Berrigan brothers.

In May 1968, the two brothers, along with seven other Catholic protesters, burned the records of the Catonsville, Maryland, draft board with homemade napalm. Their arrest, trial, and sentence to 3 years in prison propelled the Berrigans to national prominence.

They helped found the Catholic resistance movement: estimates for draft board raids range from 53 to 250. Having lost their appeals, Philip reported to jail, in April 1970, but Daniel became a fugitive. Captured by FBI agents in August, he joined his brother in Danbury Prison.

In January 1971, the Nixon administration indicted the Berrigans and others for conspiracy, including bizarre charges of planning to kidnap Henry Kissinger and blow up heating tunnels in federal buildings in Washington, D.C. After sixty hours of deliberation, the jury could not reach a verdict, forcing the judge to declare a mistrial.

After Vietnam, the brothers continued the Catholic resistance with a new focus on nuclear disarmament. In September 1980, they led a group into a GE plant in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, that damaged the nose cones for Mark 12A nuclear warheads and poured blood on company records.

They were sentenced to 3 to 10 years, but their appeal stretched across the 1980s; eventually the case was brought before a lenient judge who sentenced them to twenty‐three months' probation.

The Berrigan brothers' radical antiwar activism reflected increased alienation from government and American society.

2nd Secret of Fatima

If My requests are heeded, Russia will be converted and there will be peace; if not, she will spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions against the Church.

The Soviet Union certainly did spread its errors throughout the world.

I worked at a very liberal (feminist, liberation theology) seminary in Massachusetts. Books by Rosemary Reuther and Gutierrez were part of the curriculum. I read every book in the library and received quite an “education”. To this day, I am grateful that the Lord preserved me from being sucked into their satanic philosophy, and actually equipped me for ministry by letting me know what I was up against.

It is totally within the realms of probability that the introduction of this evil doctrine was the work of the KGB. I have no doubt about it.

File under: duh. I didn’t need a KBG defector to tell me this. I wish he’d reveal how all national morning tv “news” shows are part of the communist plot to destroy america. I mean I already know that too, but many don’t realize it.

“Pope John Paul II effectively ended the movement”

It is news to many that the movement is effectively ended.
If it is ended, why is it still taught at both Catholic and Protestant colleges/seminaries?

If it is ended, why is it advocated by visitors to the White House, cabinet officers and regulatory agencies?

If it is ended, why is it frequently used in arguments on global warming, wealth gap, etc?

I just stumbled on this via powerline, evidently the Pope is trying to rehabilitate this communist plot.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/stevenhayward/2015/05/10/how-is-liberation-theology-still-a-thing/

The more I see of the current Pope, the less I like him, I loved Benedict but I don’t know why he left, and I don’t know how we got this wacky guy in his place.

"A high-ranking communist official who defected to the United States in the 1970s now says the Soviet KGB was behind the tidal wave of “liberation theology” that swept through Catholic countries in Latin America before the opposition of Pope John Paul II effectively ended the movement."

The late Malachi Martin mentioned this fact in his book
The Society of Jesus and the Betrayal
of the Roman Catholic Church.
Communists/Marxists were infiltrating Catholic orders during the 1970s through the 1980s and 90s. The Jesuit order was the main target of the Soviets along with other orders and many Protestant churches.

The Communist Party supported "anti-gentilism," huh? Why then did they support the Arabs (Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Algeria, PLO, etc.) and attack Israel relentlessly?

The only time the Communist bloc supported Israel was for a brief period in the late 40s when they hoped that it would join with Arab nationalists in running Britain completely out of the Middle East. Needless to say, this honeymoon did not last. At Stalin's orders, Czechoslovakia began selling weapons to the Arabs just as they had earlier, at Stalin's orders, sold them to Israel (though they were negotiated with pre-Communist Czechoslovakia). And prior to that time, the Bolsheviks had never been anything but anti-Zionist. In fact, the original (late teens/early 20s) Jewish Communist Party in "palestine" was anti-Zionist--which kind of raises the question of what they were even doing there in the first place.

That is indeed a hard question.

If Catholics refused these “new” doctrines and clung to their original faith rather than “social justice” memes, and if Protestants resisted the influx of liberalism, and, indeed, if our Jewish friends clung to the Torah instead of leftist causes (thinking they can “heal the world”), then “Liberation Theology” would have no fertile ground. It would be like a seed cast onto the rocky soil, and would not take root.

There is a pernicious force at work that starts as a form of false guilt that afflicts most sincere adherents to the Judeo-Christian ethic. We Believers see injustice and poverty, and our inner desire to heal and correct these injustices make us easy prey to the enemy, who uses our good intentions to manipulate us to the left.

But neither the Torah nor the Gospels dictate that the STATE has the authority to take from one citizen and give to another.

Charity is the responsibility of the individual, who is moved by God’s Spirit to help those in need. Even the Biblical order to leave something in the fields for the poor requires that the poor GO to the fields and GLEAN it.

When left to itself, the Judeo-Christian ethic produces hospitals, old-age homes, burial societies, orphanages, homeless shelters, and soup kitchens. People give to these endeavors as the Spirit moves them.

The left can’t stand that the “Bible Religions” take care of the poor and the sick without the interference of government...so..they worked to change the RELIGION.

Just my humble opinion, based on a half-century of observation.
