Indian Americans richest community in the US with median income of $100,547

Washington: The median income of Indian-Americans, which is the richest ethnic community in the US, in the year 2013 was $100,547, Census Bureau said in its latest report.

The figure is almost double the national median income and significantly more than even white, non-Hispanic Americans whose median income is approximately $57,000.

In its latest report, the US Census Bureau said Indian Americans are the third largest Asian community in the United States after Chinese and Filipinos.

The Chinese (except Taiwanese) population was the largest Asian group, followed by Filipinos (3.6 million), Indian American (3.5 million), Vietnamese (1.9 million), Koreans (1.8 million) and Japanese (1.4 million).

But when it comes to income, Indian Americans top the list. In contrast to the high-earning groups, the median income of Black-American households was $33,321 and that of Hispanic households was $39,005.

Indian Americans have been a historical constant on ethnic income list over the past few years. Half a decade ago, Indian Americans took home a median of $86,135. South African Americans slotted into second with median $81,912 take-home, while Filipino Americans had the third highest median income at $76,954.

The median income in 2013 for Indian Americans was $100,547; while for Bangladeshis, it was $51,331. The estimated number of US residents in 2013 who were Asian, either one race or in combination with one or more additional races was 19.4 million.

Previously, the census bureau's "American Community Survey in 2010" had put the Indian-American median family income at $86,135.

California has the largest population of Asian Americans (6.1 million).

The Asian population alone represented 37.7 per cent of the total population in Hawaii.

Though the census report did not address the religious angle, other surveys have long indicated that Jewish-Americans come closest to Indian-Americans in terms of income and education.

Is this per capita, or by household?

At first I thought this was per capita. But the sentence in paragraph five which reads:

“the median income of Black-American households was $33,321 and that of Hispanic households was $39,005. “

Makes me think this is household income.

Any idea on this? Everything else in the article tends to read as per-capita, but family incomes is completely different.

You may be right about that. I’m not in IT, but I’ve had headhunters call me for software validation jobs (I would be like an end-user). The recruiters are all from India.

Part of the left, is big government, and that is why immigration is all important to them, native Americans quit voting for them generations ago, so they need to import these voters.

I need to change my name to either “chief running fast” or “Rodriguez” to get my piece of the pie because I’m ONLY “Whitey” and supposedly belong at the END of the line.

People who ridicule you for telling truth are obviously not in our line of work. How would they like it if going to the office felt like entering a third world country. It has nothing to do with competition or not having the skills, we simply don’t have the government giving out money to the big 5 to hire American workers. Until the “racket” hits their profession they assume we are just whiners. If they are in the IT industry and don’t see it, they have blinders on.

I agree. But don’t like picking a fight with only a few weeks under the belt.

I have worked a lot in presentations centers. One time a banker wanted to have the 10-12th pages of his document to show page 1 through 3 at the bottom

Ten seconds if you know how, forever if you don’t. Indian IT guy couldn’t admit for an hour he didn’t know how to do it. Banker brought it to me, took 10 seconds.

The Indian presentations center that was opened to replace us folded after two years of horrifying work.

I can believe but what I’ve seen happen since they started their consulting house is if that were to happen now the guy would only have to call the company that placed him and ask someone there how to do it.

On large projects you could have 10 or 15 from the same company get placed and between the group of them and the hot line to the contracting house they can get their answers quicker. I’ve heard them stay on the phone for over a half hour getting instructions for how to do their assignments. Granted it is a smart way to do it but not the American way. It is kind of like welfare for the IT crowd. Handouts where everyone but U.S. wins.
It does no good to speak up. Another thing big business likes about the H1bs especially is they will not complain to the boss about anything. They are well paid servants.

That ‘s the great thing about Presentations work. You need to know advanced features of Word, Excel and PowerPoint and in some cases, the Creative Suite.
It sounds like cake but there are a MILLION little things to know to make a chart Exactly the way the investment banker wants it, and he wants it YESTERDAY!!
No time to spoon feed those clods.
Different than tech, I would assume, where time is on your side a little more?
