As I'm getting older I find them a bit heavy. Instead, I'll just carry my Glock and a few spare mags.
Back in those times, children used “copybooks” in school. The individual lesson would have a “heading” that the child would then copy over and over. It was an exercise to improve penmenship. The typical “heading” was a genarally accepted norm or fact.
For example, “The sky is blue” or “God is great.”
The poem is using this turn of phrase as a declaration of fact, when you see the phrase in the poem, think “and the fact is” or something similar....
I’m sure that this explanation is not adequate or complete, so hopefully a more scholarly FReeper will step in and assist.

And check those buses every morning. School buses are a concern I have (I won't let my kids ride them anymore). I'm worried they'll go for a coordinated strike and bomb buses across the country. I think they would only get one shot at it as security would be massively over-hauled over night; but still. In my area, they are sitting on the side of the state roads in parking lots with no fences to speak of (probably no security camera's either).

They tend to be really fat, drool a lot, and talk constantly about really stupid things like how great the economy is since 0bama took over. Besides, if they ever saw a real Muslim terrorist, they would probably pee all over me and crap their pants.
No thanks. It wouldn't be worth the trouble even though they might be able to soak up a lot of lead and shrapnel. But all the whining and yammering would drive me crazy.

It seems to be about forgetting the obvious, on purpose. Sooner or later the obvious asserts itself again, to the detriment of those who failed to note it.
True. I would nit-pic your thesis just a little. The ramifications are not able to only be detrimental to those who failed to note it, it will reign down on everyone....
Yes, the burden often gets shared by those who did not expect it.
Virginia, Maryland, Illinois, California, and Michigan. I think that those are all very blue states (not positive about VA) but I think that that they made some good choices so far. I nominate New York, Vermont, Mass, Washington and DC for future consideration.

The bus fleet is obviously wide open to sabotage.
