“More probable than not” says to me that they can’t prove it. If they can’t prove it, then they can’t prove it. It sounds like a retaliatory strike at the integrity of Tom Brady rather than having to prove their concerns.
He didn’t show up for Klownie the Kenyan’s post SB photo-op? That’s great LOL
The NFL cares so much about this issue that they let the respective teams be in charge of their own pointed spheroids, and don’t just simply check the current inflation regularly in a game with a million built in commercial breaks.
My theory is that they will do anything to attract the lowest denominator fan, and to the lowest denominator fan excitement = scoring. If custom inflation gives whatever edge to offense, well and good say no more wink wink.
Freegards
If Brady had actually done something and they have had proof then suspension would be appropriate. Court by bought reports, and Goodell witch hunts don’t make this true. Personally after throwing footballs for two decades it makes no difference want the balls are inflatted to you still have to put the ball on target and the receiver has to catch it.
Cheating cheating, drafting serial killers, and more cheating. Maybe it’s time they changed their name to the “Patriocheats”.
Best post I have ever read on this topic. You are so right. Tom knew that either they were softer or that he asked for them to be. I honestly don’t care about this. Fine Tom and let’s get on with life. I really hope they don’t do something really dumb like suspending him even for a game. I often wonder if Tom were a Democrat would he be going through this? Nope.
This keeps the NFL in the news cycle during a normally slow period. The NFL hype machine normally doesn’t have a lot to work with this time of year, the draft is over, the NBA and NHL playoffs are going on, MLB is kicking into high gear. This report keeps the NFL front and center even if for a short period.
I bet they could prove it with the texts and emails Tom Brady refused to provide.
Maybe Brady should have checked with Lord Foul prior to the start of the game, if anyone knows the feel of balls, it’s Lord Foul.
The fact that the “deflators” received gifts from Brady and mention discussions with Brady in their text messages is enough for me.
...
As the response indicates, those “facts” are nothing without assumptions and inferences. The NFL has nothing. That’s why their conclusion is “probable.”
Which is the same as saying they can’t prove it.
So, I think they are returning an eye for an eye. Make the league look bad and we’ll make you look bad.
Brady can’t really do anything about it.
you can bet he would have changed the ball...so why let him off the hook just because it was minor yet helped his game?
...
Did they help his game? He played much better during the second half of the Colts game and the Super Bowl when the balls were under the closest scrutiny.
More over unless it can be proven that Tom Brady directed them to under-inflate the balls, I see nothing actionable here.
My two cents.
That's like saying that Pete Rose shouldn't be banned from baseball because he lost money betting on games.
OK, I’ll admit it, I’m a Pats fan.
But, that disclaimer aside, I’d like to know why this is so important? We’re paying these super-athletes to put on the best show possible by performing the best they possibly can.
The argument is one of unfair advantage, but if each quarterback gets the balls the way he wants them, what do we care? It’s not the same as an anti-steroids argument, where it’s the long-term health of the players which is at stake.
The Patriots have been pulling crap for years.
If the NFL doesn’t come down on them for this violation and subsequent violations, then the league is a joke.
Take away their 1st round draft pick, or suspend Brady for 4 games.
Next violation, double the penalty.
We also know from reading the report that officials in game 7 of the Patriots season allowed balls nearly 20% above the PSI threshold. Do those officials get suspended, does the head of officials get fired?
There’s really no evidence there other than Tom wanted the balls properly inflated, possibly toward the legal and lower end of the scale.
