Oh but it is when you meet someone who sees marriage in the way that you do. There’s a lot of people today who don’t understand what commitment is to anything let alone within a marriage.

That's the key - commitment through thick or thin. Love means self-sacrifice and the desire to please the other, not seeking one's own desires.

Well, there ya’ go... Few things piss me off more than guys degrading women. Don’t be a bitch.

So stating the plainly obvious is degrading women? Which is that women now have changed that way more than in years past? If that is your meaning, get lost....I could care less what you think. If I prefer a woman to be normal weight and have long hair, it is not degrading women to state it out loud. That just makes me normal.

Just for the heck of it, here's my story......

One thing you can observe in life as a divorced man, as seen on this thread, is that some non divorced men size you up as a failure. That you obviously messed up. You either were a bad husband or obviously chose to marry some crazy woman. Hence it's all your fault anyways. That attitude applies to other topics too at FR. The judgmental and know-it-all attitude from those who haven't experienced divorce is just swell.

My divorce , way back 1977, It was a 50-50 split.

She got half and her lawyer got half.

I think a balance....it’s never 50/50....nor was marriage designed for that. Sometimes it isn’t any % for a time as the marriage itself carries you because you’re both committed to the marriage....especially when you might not like each other for spell.

Love means a whole lot of things now days.....I don’t like to broad brush everything with love...it’s true meaning has been lost in this country.

I read most of the replies here on the board. A few years ago I told my son if he doesn’t marry an Asian woman, he might as well marry a man, that’s what women in America today are like. It wouldn’t be like the good old days when mom stayed home, cleaned the house and raised them. I am glad I gave him the advice.. He almost made a terrible mistake. Once in a while, I hope I am wrong and women are returning to tradition, but even at church I see women speak to their husbands disrespectfully, in public. I am shocked that Proverbs 31 Women are either already married or non- existent.

We had given my son similar advice. On his first day of High School years ago, he was sitting at a table with friends and a group of girls walked by. As they did, they burst into a stream of obscenities amongst themselves in front of their table. The kids and my son were taken aback and he relayed the story to me later. I explained in context of what I had been saying all the years about culture and such.

He sees it clearly and he is a young man now. Hopefully with eyes fully open to the problems at hand with modern relationships and culture. As I explain it to him frequently, some cultures should be kept in their petri dish.

Let me clear it up with you men out there. I’m a woman married 27 years. Was my husbands 3rd wife. There are things you men KNOW if a woman is good at or CARES to be good at. A husband should have a wife that is good at MANY of those things. The husband should be just as good at these things as well. Nuff said?

It wasn't your 50-50, it was my lawyers (yes lawyerS) who sucked me dry. The first one got his license revoked and I had to get another. To do this, I had to sell my boat, the proceeds of which she got half. I have so say the second lawyer did me right.

Our biggest contention was in discipline. I felt we needed to be somewhat strict, like my parents were with me. She wanted to be best friend with our daughter. I see now how that turned out.

HAHAHAHA...I told a friend of mine, who was thinking of getting married, “It’d be cheaper and easier in the long run just to pay someone to come by and kick you in the balls every few days.”

Understand - it’s not that I hear women running around telling everyone what a ‘wonderful’ experience it is getting divorced - it’s just how single guys hear it from the viewpoint of who ‘wins’, and all that these guys hear is that the deck is stacked against them, and that’s what they’re responding to.

Unless and until that changes, marriage will continue to die off...and that is simply bad for society and weakens this country (even more) - as we see with our very low birthrate and the repopulation efforts going on.

Yet you are portraying him as a victim? In many of the posts here where the guy got screwed, I see little self-reflection on what he might have done to have a better marriage. It is all the woman's fault. He was perfect and she was just a greedy bitch.

It takes two to make a marriage and two to make a divorce.

BTW, I have married once, 35 years and counting.
