Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: Baltimore Is Just the Beginning
Time Magazine ^ | May 6, 2015 | Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

"The Baltimore uprising isn’t just about Freddie Gray"

The curfew has been lifted in Baltimore, and now all of God’s children are once again tucked back in the snug routine of their daily lives. The black temper tantrum is over, America. We can all go back to watching Castle boyishly charm his way through murder mysteries. Order is restored.

Except, as Sportin’ Life says in Porgy and Bess, “It ain’t necessarily so.”

What happened in Baltimore isn’t just a one-and-done situation. This wasn’t just a slight sprain in the ankle that we’ll be able to walk off by morning. This was a violently shattered bone that will have America limping forward on crutches for months to come, maybe even years.

One thing that history has taught us is that civil unrest is rarely just about what incites the incident. From what information the public has been given, Freddie Gray’s death seems like a malignant cocktail of negligence and abuse, and the charges brought against the six officers seem to confirm that. But we’ve seen this all before—many times....

He is correct. However, they begin where the chickenshit White male cowards are. Because if the start with the rednecks, it will be over before it begins. Once the rednecks come to the realization that their families are in danger, they will make short work of them.

Interesting. I guess I expected more from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. But race trumps reason.

I have a couple of observations looking back over the past week and a half. The city officials in and citizens of Baltimore came off looking bad. Real bad. Almost like petulant children. Especially the mayor and State's Attorney. The President as usual came off looking like a major league race pimp. A higher class of Jesse and Al, the Just-us Brothers. The only two public officials at this point who have looked and acted like grownups in this situation have been the Maryland Governor and the new Attorney General. At this stage of the game, I am very surprised, pleasantly surprised at Ms Lynch.

It must be frightening for some folks to be both ignorance t and so miseducated that reality is always in conflict with their beliefs and expected outcomes.

If all my life I was told gravity pulls things upwards and then one day I saw something fall off a shelf, I’d be perturbed and puzzled by it. Likewise, they see cops killing black people who are assaulting them and they can’t fathom why cops killed them for “no reason”.

IIRC, Baltimore has the third highest spending per student in the entire United States.

Yep, more money is always the solution. It is why this country is bankrupt.

No doubt. Money is not the answer to our education problems. It starts with the destruction of the American family. 73% of blacks are born out of wedlock.

kareem:
“The protests in Baltimore were similar to the Boston Tea Party in 1773, the more than 200,000 people at the Washington, D.C. National Mall to hear Martin Luther King Jr. in 1964, and the anti-war march of more than 500,000 on Washington, D.C., in 1969. When people feel disenfranchised, helpless, and hopeless, they will take to the streets, destroy property, loot, attempt to kill people in order to air their grievances. Oh. the 200,000 in DC in 1964 didn’t burn the Lincoln Monument down? nevermind.” and the people in power over all this are democrats.

Surprisingly that is pretty much what did happen in the British Empire.

The Civil Rights movement taught the black that the law was no more than a tool of those in power.

About 70 unarmed blacks have been killed by police between 1999 and 2014.

A thousand times as many unarmed blacks have been killed by black criminals during that same period. Ironically, these protests Mr. Abdul-Jabbar is defending will likely result in less diligent policing and thus cause the deaths of far, far more unarmed blacks.
