Hill Republicans have all but surrendered the fight against President Barack Obamas executive actions on immigration.
A handful of GOP firebrands are still agitating to use Congress power of the purse to reverse Obamas move to shield millions of immigrants here illegally from deportations.
But top Republicans say theyre not about to go there again: They tried that earlier this year with the Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill but were forced to capitulate on the eve of a department shutdown, having won no concessions on immigration. Better to let the issue play out in the courts, the GOP reasoning goes, especially since a judge has already halted the presidents November executive actions at least for now.
The avenue that we took last time was a losing battle, and we knew it was a losing battle going into it, said Rep. John Carter (R-Texas), the man writing this years DHS funding bill. There might be other things we can figure out. Were putting our heads together on that but it wont be what we did last time because what we did last time wont win.
With the GOP in control of both chambers, party leaders are determined to avoid no-win showdowns with the Obama administration. Democrats still control 46 seats in the Senate enough to keep Republicans from the 60 votes they need to advance legislation and to keep leaders focused on measures that can win some bipartisan support. Another scorched-earth immigration fight risks more congressional gridlock, just as Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) hope to secure deals on trade, cybersecurity and Iran.

The Uniparty strikes again. Quislings.
Is there anything more useless than a Republican politician?
Republicans don’t have much appetite for anything except going along to get along.
“Little voter appetite for GOP...”
We need a new GOP.
What again is the difference between the two parties?
With every report about issues like this, the geldings in the GOP literally piss all over themselves with glee over the chance to give Obama whatever he wants.
With the exception of a scant few, the GOP is essentially sitting on the darkside at Obama’s feet, craving his attention.
The GOP is going to lose the Senate and lose many seats in the House next year and they will conclude that it is because they were not sufficiently leftist rather than face the truth that Conservatives are so pissed off at the Republicrat party that they will stay home or vote third party.
Someone please remind me how we’re going to vote our way out of this?
There. Fixed it.
The GOP keeps sending me “expired” notices and asking for money, I keep telling them we can talk after they get new leadership and start to oppose Obama.
The only appetite the GOP has for fighting is when they are fighting Conservatives.
It’s the GOP that has expired. They are just one wing of the uniparty.
They didn’t “surrender” anything. That was their position all along. If it’s what Hussein wants, it’s what Republicans want. They just have to be a tad cagey about it to preserve their status as faux Opposotion.
Gutless, lying bastards.
Cruz and Walker t are witting members of that organization. Both have hedged on how to deal with the illegals. If they actually "do not understand" what flooding the country with new immigrants, legal and illegal, is doing to America, then they are not competent to be President. If they do understand then they will knowingly continue the current collapse into totalitarianism perhaps with a short respite of deregulation and tax rationalization.
It does not matter how much a new Conservative President with a Republican Congress does to regain prosperity and liberty if they do not stop the flood immediately and seriously and quickly reverse its direction.
When the government is small and opportunities for wealth through graft are thus also small, elected officials are more apt to retain integrity, if only in calculation that holding their seats is more remunerative than the wealth available by corruption that may cost them their seats in succeeding elections. When the government is huge and everything a business wishes to do must be permitted and approved by a government office then the opportunity for wealth through graft is overpowering to politicians, most of whom have highly malleable "principles" anyway.
They gain lifelong wealth by "going along" even if they lose their seats in the very next election. Their voting constituents no longer influence them. They become solely representatives of the sources of wealth, corporations and foundations and the lobbyists that front them.
Craven f'n whores. I put Boner and Yertle right next to 0.
That should just be a macro in the media's word processors. Just hit a couple of keys and the fill in the blank with today's topic. About the only fight the GOP will enter is against conservatives like Ted Cruz or Chris McDaniel.
Not going to happen, far too late...
