Gov. Scott Walker walks away from the public on immigration
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ^ | May 4, 2015 | Craig Kafura, research associate, coordinates public opinion work,Chicago Council on Global Affairs

Republican presidential hopeful Gov. Scott Walker teased a new stance on immigration on Glenn Beck's radio show recently: Now, he wants to decrease legal immigration into the United States.

Walker's shift brings up several questions about how Americans — in particular, Republicans — think about immigration. Given the more pro-immigration positions of Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio, Walker's move is a likely strategic play for the anti-immigration portion of the party. But public opinion polling data from The Chicago Council on Global Affairs shows that it is unlikely to benefit him politically in the long run.

Overall, we find that Republicans do not favor decreasing legal immigration. While that was a more common position even as late as 2008, support among Republicans for decreasing legal immigration has dropped off sharply since then, according to Chicago Council survey data. This holds true for the majority of Republicans who identify as "strong" Republicans: Only four in 10 of these very committed Republicans favor decreasing legal immigration levels.

The same is true for a key Republican constituency: In a 2013 survey of business leaders in the Midwest — including Wisconsin and ever-important Iowa — majorities of Republican business leaders favored increasing legal immigration for both high-skilled (54%) and low-skilled (56%) workers. That even as Midwestern Republican business leaders were divided between keeping overall legal immigration at the present level (44%) or decreasing it (43%); an additional one in seven (14%) favored increasing legal immigration.

The GOP itself — eager to woo more Latino voters — understands this polling. The 2012 election saw Barack Obama win seven of 10 Latino votes, racking up a 44-point margin over Mitt Romney with an electorate on track to double in size by 2030. The Republican National Committee's report on the election does not mince words:.....

Sorry, but no amount of head hiding in the sand will change the fact that Walker was a dyed-in-the-wool CoC amnesty man up until a few weeks ago. There's no running away from his original interview in July 2013 in which he expressed his EXPLICIT support for the Gang of 8.

You're the one with no clue.

Walker Supports Gang’s Bill

1) Common Core was put in place before Walker became governor. He eliminated Common Core. LIE

2) Walker never supported amnesty, even before he was governor. LIE

3) Walker supported right-to-work but had other priorities first. It is not law, happily signed by Walker. LIE

4-5) So, because he is helping citizens get health insurance through the only means allowed by law...he is bad? STUPID

6) Public sector unions were neutered under Walker. Period. LIE

7) NBA stadium put ZERO taxpayer money at risk. It was a very creative and novel way to finance the deal without allowing owners to put taxpayers on the hook. LIE

8) He signs pro-life bills, but because he doesn’t do a happy dance there is something wrong with him.....wow. Can you say you people are fetchin’ insane?!

9) So Walker does not support shutting down the government because he has always found a way to get things done. Horrible man.

10) Nitpick, nitpick, nitpick...Wisconsin now has concealed carry, but all these MORONS can do is nitpick it apart. Jerks.

11) So, Walker accepted the court’s decision on gay marriage. Bad man for respecting the rule of law!!!

12) Walker has said he wants to phase out the subsidies over time so the ethanol producers can adapt their businesses to compete in the open market...something they are not allowed to do currently. Walker would let them try. These people have a problem with Walker supporting capitalism.

This list is nothing but lies, nitpicking and total insanity written by an absolute MORON.

So in his video-recorded interviews and public pronouncements, Walker is lying to himself?

Good news - too many are ready to call both Cruz and Walker unclean; while I'm not as thrilled about Walker as I am enthusiastic about Cruz, I still won't trash him this early in the game. Money to Cruz and patience with Walker to try to insure one or the other is still alive at the end. While Walker has "evolved" his immigration opinions, I doubt that it is merely a ploy.

Cruz and Walker seem to be the two most all-around conservatives we have and if something derails one or the other, we will want a solid choice to prevent folks from being so disillusioned/depressed that they allow the Dim to prevail again. If our side doesn't take the WH, I would imagine we are about toasted to the point of no return - with the help of the ever-constant commies in the House and Senate and the compliance of the RINOs, another Dim presidency might very well be the no-return tipping point as they doubletriple down on the lawlessness.

So, Mr. Timber “Whatever” Rattler, what about Ted Cruz - is he lying to himself, to the voters? He’s gotten pretty hard to pin down.

Walker’s on record in posted current quotes and links to this thread, but you want to bring up an old, truncated interview and make that his forever and dying proclamation on immigration.

What are your views on 5-fold increased legal immigration - as Sen. Ted Cruz is advocating?

Don't agree with it, and I think that Cruz is wrong.

Next question.

That Walker interview was from 2013. It's not that old.

Next.

No.

Walker supported comprehensive immigration reform as it was being sold to the public until he figured out it was amnesty.

I do not see why that is so difficult for you to comprehend.

Walker has governed as a conservative. You cannot point to ONE act of Walker’s that was not conservative, so you twist his words and use liberal sources (who hate Walker) to support your irrational hatred of Walker.

It is obvious that you are a blind supporter of someone more liberal than Walker.

Oh please. You really believe that? If so, then you're admitting that Walker was clueless.

So, you support Cruz, who wants to give the illegals work permits, taking jobs from Americans while simultaneously increasing H1B visas by 500%.
