Dems push for same-day voter registration

Sens. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Jon Tester (D-Mont.) want every state to offer same-day voter registration for federal elections.

The Democratic senators have reintroduced the Same Day Registration Act, which would require states to allow voters to register on the day of an election.

Ten states, plus the District of Columbia, currently allow eligible voters to do so, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. In addition, the group notes that Illinois is expected to implement statewide same-day voter registration later this year. Advocates argue it can help increase voter turnout, while opponents say it increases the chances for voting fraud.

Klobuchar said the legislation would help "foster" the right to vote.

“The right to vote is the foundation of our democracy," she said in a statement. "We should be doing everything we can to foster this right."

Tester added that the legislation could help combat "voter disenfranchisement."

"States that continue to deny folks access to the polls on Election Day are fueling voter disenfranchisement,” Tester said. “Voting is a cornerstone of our democracy and we should make every effort to increase voter participation and allow more folks to have a say in their representation.”

"Sens. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Jon Tester (D-Mont.) want every state to offer same-day voter registration for federal elections."

We’d probably never see senators introducing such legislation if the 17th Amendment had never been ratified.

The 17th Amendment needs to disappear, and a bunch of corrupt senators along with it.

I would be surprised if they didn’t pick up at least 50 RINO co-sponsors in the House and 10 in the Senate.

These traitors are relentless. Don’t ALL Legislators take an oath to protect and defend our Constitution?? This is completely unConstitutional! If this is rammed through, our Republic is DONE!

Good grief - if that were the law, why even bother with any form registration, what would be the point. Totally defeats any purpose of it.

Ohio tried this for one election in the 70’s.
The fraud was so absolutely out-of-control that law was repealed the following year.

As a matter of historical perspective, the state of Wisconsin had same-day voter registration years ago, part of their legacy of the Progressives under Bob La Follette. This probably worked fairly well in rural districts, where the election clerk knew the applicant on sight, but it was badly abused in the urban and industrialized suburban districts then very much under the power of the locals representing both the AFL and its competitor, CIO. This was before there was a merger of the two organizations.

It led to some pretty significant polling-place riots at times.

Next step will be that they’ll require you to produce proof that you voted in order to collect welfare or any other sort of public benefit.

Just a small leap to legality reassignment... on any particular day (e.g., election day) you are the legality you think you are, prior to vote. Anybody with a problem with that is raciss...

What’s the point, though, unless the polls are a short walk from the border and a short walk from the neo-natal unit?

No ID required, just register over and over, and vote over and over. In Idaho, thousands of muzzie jihad sympathizers will turn the whole state into paradise.
