Is John Roberts Drifting Left?
TNR ^ | 05/02/2015 | By Brianne J. Gorod

This has been a week of surprises from Chief Justice John Roberts. Wednesday he joined the Court’s more liberal members in a 5-4 decision in a significant First Amendment case. Tuesday at the argument in Obergefell v. Hodges, the marriage equality cases, he suggested that a ban on same-sex marriage might present a “straightforward question of sexual discrimination.” These superficially surprising moves support Roberts’s oft-repeated claim that he believes the Justices should decide cases based on the law, not politics.

But as Roberts’s tenth term as Chief Justice comes to a close, the biggest tests of that claim are still to come in the Court’s decisions in Obergefell and in King, the latest challenge to the Affordable Care Act (ACA). While no one can know for sure what Roberts will do in those cases, there’s a good chance that he’ll remain unpredictable into June.

In Wednesday’s decision in Williams-Yulee v. Florida Bar, Roberts surprised Court watchers when he joined the Court’s more liberal members to hold that the First Amendment permits Florida to ban judicial candidates from personally soliciting campaign funds.

Roberts wrote for the Court that “[a] State may assure its people that judges will apply the law without fear or favor—and without having personally asked anyone for money.” This was a big deal, and a relative bombshell by the Chief Justice. In the first decade of the Roberts Court, almost every term has had a significant decision sharply limiting campaign finance legislation, and Roberts has been in the majority in all of them. Last year, in McCutcheon v. FEC, he wrote the opinion striking down federal limits on aggregate campaign contributions, stating that the $123,000 limit per two-year election cycle “seriously restrict[s] participation in the democratic process”

Heck he is in a motorboat with dual engines and with a pile of cash.

Personally, I believe the adoption of his children is threatened. ( Just my guess.)

Will God save America? Possible, but I doubt it. Why would He?

1) Abortion

2) Godless government K-12 single-payer and socialist indoctrination of children.

If children are forced into godless classrooms they will learn to think and reason godlessly. They must just to cooperate in the godless classroom. How could it be otherwise.

Gee! If a child does happen to survive to birth, then the godless Marxists work tirelessly to kill his soul in their godless K-1 indoctrination camps.

Notice that when the Left invents a new euphemism for communism (”single-payer”) they never apply it across-the-board? I.e., when they came out with “single-payer health care” they didn’t start calling government schooling “single-payer education.”

Roberts is the latest in a long, long line of republi8can SCOTUS appointees who seem to lose their brains or ethics as soon as the take then oath....

Why is it always the republican appointees who seem to change allegiances after they are appointed?

I don’t recall liberal democrat appointees making such swift and dramatic philosophical flip-flops to the conservative side.

Maybe there really is something to the suspicion that the republican/conservative appointees are being blackmailed into traitorous behavior.

Not that I’m an expert but he does look like he’s the closet type to me...

Well, with his outrageous leap of pathetic redefinition of PPACA as a “tax” or “not a tax, but insurance” based on the particulars of any case coming before his court, I wouldn’t say “drifting left.” I’d say “over the cliff left.”

Based on that right picture in post #17, I’d say Roberts is definitely conflicted - about a lot of things.

There are all sorts of pictures of him where he looks like he is a homosexual when in his 20s and early 30s....his marriage may be a sham and the “adoption” has issues which may be “Bribe” material. His sex life would be “Bribe” material also— and majorly so if he is like Clinton with Epstein (and children (boys are more often raped than the girls). It reminds me a little of obama’s “marriage”. He is being bribed-—that is obvious. He is smart enough to understand the concept of Individual Natural Rights only come from God—not from some irrational base urges that ignore Science and Right Reason. Any “Just Law” that promotes the vice of sodomy is a joke and irrational and removes the Natural Rights of a baby to have a biological mother and father-—but then, the Supreme Court says Killing Babies is a Natural Right also-—totally unconstitutional “Law”. The oligarchy is ejecting the US Constitution for Stalin’s-—totally irrational “laws” and evil “laws”.-—both unconstitutional.

Bingo.

I would suggest Judas Roberts start reading the Bible - and what it says about bribes and homosexuality.

I bet body language experts would have a field day with this photo. Look at how Roberts flinches as his daughter leans against him. He seems to be saying "Eeew, a girl, icky, don't touch me!"

I favor the closet homosexual explanation. I know the adoption issues has been around, but it is hard for me to believe that a highly respected judge would have to resort to some sort of illegal adoption to adopt. There are plenty of legal avenues to use in this country, especially if you have money. So I think the illegal adoption is used to cover up the real reason.

I hadn’t noticed, but you are right. The body language is bad for the whole family, except for the little boy. The little girl looks like she is trying to get close to her Daddy and he just isn’t interested. The mother looks like she is just there, a perfect 1950s mother.
